Loopers

What are my options here. I strictly would want to loop for ambient jams. I would prefer it to be compact. I have played with the DL-4 and the Akai, but both are pretty large and I would not need the additional delay. I also always prefer supporting the smaller market builders.

I've used a ton of loopers over the last few years trying to find the most simple one. If you don't need to save anything you record, I honestly suggest the Boss DD7. I know it's got the extra added delay, but you've got a 20 second stereo looper, or 40 second mono looper which doesn't sound like much, but is actually a decent amount of time. It's smaller, and super simple. Tap to record, tap the same place to stop.

I used an RC-20xl, but it just seemed combersome and it seemed to clip pretty easily. I used a Boomerang+, but it was really big, and looping with it also wasn't the easiest, BUT, it did have some pretty cool half speed and reverse stuff. I've been using a DL8 until I could get another DD7, and the only thing I don't like about the DL8 is the audio quality isn't as pristine as the DD7, and you have to hold the footswitch for the entire initial phrase.

I've not tried an RC-2 or RC-3, but I'd be curious to see their audio quality and clipping ratio with a hot signal

Awesome thanks for the feedback. I'd love to see what EQD, Dwarfcraft or even Catlinbread could do with a looper.

Oh yeah most definitely. EQD has definitely proven themselves in the digital world with the Rainbow Machine and Organizer, Dwarfcraft is definitely in the direction to do something like that since they've gone digital with the Pitch Grinder, and Catalinbread would make a neat one too!

I know that Madbean PCB's used to make a lofi looper, but I know it was SUPER lofi and I'm not sure you could overdub on it

The Flashback's looper isn't too bad. Not great, but it's alright. Only problem is that you can't remove layers.

But I agree with what others have said. I use a DL4 for my looping.

My band mate owns a Boss RC-2. I'm not very fond of it. And unless I'm an idiot, when you go to delete whatever you recorded on it, it plays back for a few seconds before being erased. In my opinion I haven't found a looper that has totally blown me away yet. I've heard some good things about jamman's loopers.

they do take up some space, but DL-4s and the RC-50 have been my favorite thus far. currently use two DL-4s, wish i'd hung onto my RC-50. just picked up a boomerang, giving that a shot...

haven't had one but zvex makes some small loop pedals too.

I don't think they are great. I think with the Lofi Loop Junkie you can't overdub

I just got a Boss RC-2. It's small and easy to use.
Work fine for me.

Vox Lil' Looper gives you two separate independent channels for looping. It's also pretty small (from the pictures, at least).
