why cant all live hip hop be this good?

Your band, other bands, singers, songwriters, more.

Speaking of live hip-hop, serious goddamn news flash: Method Man and Redman are going on tour with Ghostface Killah. It is going to be absolutely insane and you should go if they're anywhere near you.

I can certainly see than, depending on the artist. On that Ghostface/Rakim tour, for instance, Ghostface made much better use of the band - Rakim's more stripped down beats didn't give the band much to do, whereas Ghostface has tons of songs rich in soul samples and horns and so forth ("The Champ" fucking killed). Jay-Z, similarly, is very successful with the approach - producers like Just Blaze and Kanye translate very well into live band settings.

I could see synth-heavy Southern rap having similar troubles.

Oh man, good point. Those are two that would work perfectly. The rest of the Dungeon Family too, really - Goodie Mob and such.

yeah i lot of the Dungeon Family is really neo-soul heavy & they played a role in that scene in Atlanta during the mid-to-late 90's. plus Dre dated Erykah Badu around that time also... so it's all relative...

i actually would love to see Devin the Dude backed a capable band in a live setting.

"Gossip"? Gossip is knowing that Drake might be dating Rhianna and that Joe Budden made the error of dissing Method Man in an interview and is frantically backpedalling.

I know music.

As the previous post might have indicated, yeah, I also know gossip. But that's not what's under discussion.
