Hello. My buddy has an old Big Muff and we're trying to decide what it's worth. Pretty sure it's the V3 resistor model. I've done some research here http://www.kitrae.net/music/music_big_muff.html and dated the pots as being from 1976 (so the pedal was made in 76-77 since other factors date it before 78). The board doesn't seem to have the two op-amp chips that the limited integrated circuit version used and it reads "3003" Also, the knobs have the weird, pre-78 sweep where they don't all start and stop in the same spot.
So, any Muff experts know what a 76-77 Big Muff is worth?

That's a v3, transitional ram's head board in the red/black case (I'm assuming it's the red.black case right?). Probably BC239 transistors, but there are a few other possibilities (I have one from that era, same yellow board, 1977 pot codes, with FS36999s). You also see PNP muffs from that time with 2n5087 trannies, but this one looks to be NPN.
Switch and battery clip have been changed and it's been drilled for an AC tap. That big mojo cap looks new too. So you've lost the whole 'original' mojo collector thing. Has the output jack been moved? What's that extra hole up there? Still worth a bit though. Bet it sounds good.
Good deals done with all these guys Canada, we put the "u" in satire

Thanks for your help, Dev! Yes, it's the red & black case. Sorry, don't really know about NPN/PNP. Not sure about the extra hole, but I know my buddy did install an l.e.d. (probably not a smart move if he's looking to sell)
Other than that modification, he didn't do anything to it that I know of, but a previous owner probably did...
EDIT: He just informed me that he did change the 1/8 " pin to a standard AC jack.
