Fixing a fried pedal...

Post by stripes »

I got a new ghost disaster in the mail yesterday and only got to play with it for a good 10 minutes until I mistakenly plugged it into my dl4 supply thinking it was a 1-spot. Now the pedal doesn't work at all... I emailed EQD but no response yet, and I don't solder or really know anything about that stuff. WHAT SHOULD I DO??

plz help

If you put Ac through a dc pedal you've most likely damaged it beyond repair. I would wait for an answer from eqd and see if they will put a new board in it for you.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news:(

Could be, but could also not be FUBAR. If there are protection diodes in there, then there is a chance that you just need to replace a few components (the fried diodes) and you're good to go again. I'd wait for a response from EQD.

EQD are great dudes, they'll set things straight for you.
like the other dudes said, it should be as simple as swapping in a few components to a new board.

Also, just a heads up that EQD is at Summer NAMM, so they may be a little slow responding to emails in general. But Jamie is a great dude, and I've heard nothing but good stuff about his customer service and helpfulness in general.

I did the same to an EQD once. They fixed it right up for me ASAP.

Shlatte

Thing is, protection diodes only work on dc not on ac. If you put ac through the diodes it will destroy them and carry on through the circuit.

I'd still say it's bolloxed, but it seems eqd are a nice bunch and will help you out:)

Steve

MESSAGE TO ALL.... IF YOU HAVE AC POWER ON YOUR BOARD AT LEAST ID THE CABLE WITH SOME PVC TAPE OR SOMETHING TO STOP THIS KIND OF THING HAPPENING!!
