Thanks for the link to the review. It makes me more excited for the guitar!

And yeah, I've needed to talk through some of the newer purchases and trades and explain why they are Kosher haha

My now wife is the reason I started playing, actually. It was about 2 weeks before our second Christmas while dating, and I mentioned that I have always wanted to learn to play bass, but just never had, mostly because I didn't have my own bass to play on. A week later, she showed up at my house and asked if I wanted my present a little early, and handed me my Yamaha. She scraped together all the cash she had to pick that up for me, and I haven't put it down since then.

As a result, if I'm looking to buy gear, I can always say "look what you started", which works out nicely. She will say that some of my pedals are silly sometimes, but she's rather generous about my gear purchases.

My girlfriend paid for half of my El Capistan (birthday present) and bought me a Whetstone for Christmas one year too. She's not overly pleased with how much I spend on gear, and she 's bothered more by how much room all my gear takes up (we have a small place), but I don't get too much crap from her. When I get new pedals she's usually quick to spot them and playfully chide me for buying more stuff, but she hasn't noticed my Nasa Attribute or Seriously Special Twosome yet.

She is good about discouraging me from flipping things too quickly, and has actually talked me out of selling a few things that I definitely would regret if I had (such as my Carl TAFM). I got some crap from her recently when I traded my Deluxe Reverb for an Ampeg VT-40, not because it's way louder, but because she doesn't find it as aesthetically pleasing.

My gf just doesn't care as long as it doesn't affect her. :idk:

My strategy consists of:

-keep a set number of pedals out
-keep pedals that aren't out in a drawer
-buy more pedals, rotate old ones into drawer
-difference is never known since I pick up my own mail

-own multiple basses that are the same color
-keep one out, put the others in closet
-rotate out as desired
-she thinks they're all the same bass

It helps that we don't live together, though.

My girlfriend thinks my pedals are sexy. She's into NIN, shoegaze, and older goth music so fuzz and noises are not new to her. She likes the noisy oscillating fuzzes the best. :)

my wives were both very supportive...when W1 was still my gf she offered to buy me a pedal steel guitar with some of the money she had from an insurance settlement. i told her she oughtn't spend that much money because we hadn't been together that long. W2 was a former bassist, and bought me a tuner, a SM48, a boom stand, and several other pieces of small-but-useful gear. my recently-lost gf was originally supportive and bought me a large Casio keyboard for Christmas one year, but became resentful when i started buying guitars with my separate funds as a reaction to her Burning Man-related expenditures. she was so pissed when i bought the Epiphone Les Paul Custom that she wouldn't even acknowledge its existence for about three months, ostentationsly looking away whenever i played it or wprked on it, and referred to the Les Paul TV Special as "the baby-shit yellow guitar."

My ex threw my entire rig off the side of a mountain like 3 years ago.... my white falcon was destroyed in a related event shortly thereafter. The event was documented somewhere on here. I don't always have girlfriends....but when i do, its none of their business what i do with my money.
