How do you like the SWR stuff? I've had a chance (Don't know if it's finally sold) to buy a Goliath Senior 610 and a SM-900 amp, NOS, for pretty cheap at my local music store.

The main thing I would look for is no power tubes....or more...that I can plug headphones into it and NOT have to connect it to a speaker. So cheap, sounds closest to the 400+ so that all my effects are close, and can be not plugged in to cabs.......and that it could fill in for the 400+ in a pinch if the main guy is down for a week or so.

I love(d) it. All of what you see in the photo was pre-Fender when quality went downhill in a hurry.
If the SM900 and Goliath are older models, I'd jump on it. It's loud, punchy, and sounds great. I wouldn't buy it again, as my personal tastes have changed but I always got compliments on my tone when we played live.

Most anything without power tubes can be used without a cab for recording, headphones, etc.
I would definitely tell you to try out the GK and Carbine before you buy, and bring a few pedals with you. The Mesa is more forgiving with pedals, given the natural tube compression that happens if you slam the front end.
Clipping a SS amp sounds horrendously bad.

Got it! I'm pretty happy where I am now but have been intrigued since I've seen it. Not sure it's age but it's at least 4 or 5 years old. They don't even sell SWR stuff anymore.

If you can, take a pic and lemme see!
An SM900 into a Goliath SR would be HAWWTT.
I think the senior is the one SWR cab I never owned.... funny.

Sure man. Next time I go in, if it's still in there, I take a pic. It's been a few weeks since I've been in, but it's been there for years.

How many ohms are headphones?

Re: Penguins and Big Round Asses at pg 625 (TB Mega Thread)
I wiki'd it:
Impedance
Headphones are available with low or high impedance (typically measured at 1 kHz). Low-impedance headphones are in the range 16 to 32 ohms and high-impedance headphones are about 100-600 ohms.[4] As the impedance of a pair of headphones increases, more voltage but less current is required to drive it, and the loudness of the headphones for a given voltage decreases. In recent years, impedance of newer headphones has generally decreased to accommodate lower voltages available on battery powered CMOS-based portable electronics. This results in headphones that can be more efficiently driven by battery powered electronics. Consequently, newer amplifiers are based on designs with relatively low output impedance.
The impedance of headphones is of concern because of the output limitations of amplifiers. A modern pair of headphones is driven by an amplifier, with lower impedance headphones presenting a larger load. Amplifiers are not ideal; they also have some output impedance that limits the amount of power they can provide. In order to ensure an even frequency response, adequate damping factor, and undistorted sound, an amplifier should have an output impedance less than 1/8 that of the headphones it is driving (and ideally as low as possible).[5] If output impedance is large compared to the impedance of the headphones, significantly higher distortion will be present. [6] Therefore, lower impedance headphones will tend to be louder and more efficient, but will also demand a more capable amplifier. Higher impedance headphones will be more tolerant of amplifier limitations, but will produce less volume for a given output level.
Historically, many headphones had relatively high impedance, often over 500 ohms in order to operate well with high impedance tube amplifiers. In contrast, modern transistor amplifiers can have very low output impedance, enabling lower impedance headphones. Unfortunately, this means that older audio amplifiers or stereos often produce poor quality output on some modern, low impedance headphones. In this case, a external headphone amplifier may be beneficial.

Wanna know how accepting us bassys are of our friends.....?
Not a single person mentioned anything about excane formerly playing reggae......
And this will sound weird, Jeff, but every time I'm downing a cup of liquid, and I get to where the bottom is tilted up and I can see my reflection off of it.....I eerily see your FB avatar.
