Re: John Lyons / Basic Audo Power Outage
To me this all speaks to some sort of psychological shortcoming where the business owner is worried he/she will lose business if they are upfront and honest about backlogs and wait times, and doesn't realize they are estranging and infuriating actual customers who have been over-promised and under-delivered. It's an absurd way to do business and I can't see the upside, for either the owner or the customers. If you want to engender repeat business from your customers this isn't the way to do it. Sorry to pile on but I work for a guy like this and I'm really using this as a platform to criticize the whole mindset. My 'boss' would rather make unrealistic promises and then spend many wasted minutes/hours putting out fires and chasing his own tail than to give customers a more realistic expectation in the first place.
I just don't see how this model is better than one where you give customers realistic expectations, and then meet or beat them, you might lose a few who don't have the time to wait for you, but every customer who does place orders will be happy, as opposed to disgruntled.

Lyons.
and i agree, trashing someone when they don't have a chance to respond is classless. i wasn't happy with my 2nd experience with him, but he's not a bad guy. let's keep the personal stuff out of this?
As I said I have no argument with anyone's unsatisfactory experiences. Firstly, Patrick made what I think to be a false accusation which he apologised for and removed which is cool, I just wasn't too happy to be left with a post that was only addressing his post now make no sense and have people jump on it. Then he said he thought the power outage was a made up story/excuse so I said he could easily verify it. That is all. I'm sure Mr Lyons can defend his own business practices when he gets back online as it's certainly not my place to do it.
Peace and fuzz.

i don't need john to defend himself here i'm in constant email contact with him. i have no desire to check weather conditions miles away. he will be the first to admit he's dropped the ball. this is the problem: i want to pay for my product have it shipped and be done. i have to hear about the money sitting in the bank like once a week (its been a seven month long argument) i don't have time nor the patience to be contacting small pedal builders over and over. i admit i went ballistic when i first read this thread. i apologize if my actions offended anyone hence why i tamed down the posts. i don't really care to hear about it anymore. so kumbaya and all that happy peace stuff.

You could also have many more serious things to worry about than a pedal that's fallen behind. Like running water. Or ethnic genocide.
Gotta keep some perspective.

Re: John Lyons / Basic Audo Power Outage
Power just came back on after 8 days, 90+ degree weather some hard work
clearing fallen trees by chain saw and the old heave ho... With an empty hot fridge
cooling down now and some fans on now at 85 degrees in the house (was 92 earlier in the day).
Now I see this thread with people accusing me of "screwing them over". Good Grief people!!
Are you serious?!
I have never intentionally mislead or taken money without delivering from anyone.
A few times I have even delivered far beyond what was ordered to try and make up for the wait
still keeping to the agreed upon price.
Yes, it has taken longer than expected at times but I hardly see this as screwing someone over.
I have always replied to emails right away. This really upsets me....

Re: John Lyons / Basic Audo Power Outage
I don't see anyone accusing you of scamming John. It seems the common theme here is a lack of good communication, and multiple delays after being told almost done and coming soon, etc. A few people's finished product was not what they asked for.
Those of us that wrote about our experience believe it is worth putting out there, so other people looking for custom work can know what our experience was like with you. Say what you want John, I was not pleased overall with how things went down. The pedal is not what made me not like the experience.
I am glad you came through the storm safe and I hope everything gets back on track for you.

I'm sure duder's referring to this:
As it DOES insinuate he doesn't give people their money back after he ignores them and grossly misses deadlines. I was just going off of stuff I remembered hearing and NOT first hand experience. I should have put something that more resembled "getting jerked around a lot" rather than "getting totally screwed over".
My bad.

It upsets all of us too John.
I don't believe anyone here enjoys the things that were said, but it was necessary. In the same way people would share experiences (good and bad) of anything under the sun, I think those of us in this thread grew tired of hearing/seeing all the complaints with you and wanted to make others aware.
I can only speak for myself, but you haven't responded right away to my emails. In fact, there was zero communication from you on my entire project.
Every piece of email between us came from my end. You sent me zero emails on progress, photos, wait time, nothing. I had to ask for everything.
Even when you refunded my money at first, you gave me NO explanation. I just got a paypal email telling me my deposit was back. You don't think that would elicit a "What the fuck" reaction?
1) I gave you a detailed drawing of my pedal that took hours of my time (which is just as valuable as yours) and while you did a good job, you decided to put your logo on it without even telling me....NOT cool for a custom enclsoure. We specifically discussed keeping any logo off the case.
2) You told me I would have a 3 position toggle. Only after it was finished and I asked about it, you said "yeah, the 3 position didn't work out as planned"
....Really?? you couldn't share that with me BEFORE you went ahead and built it? Maybe I wouldn't have wanted it. As a matter of fact...if I hadn't asked you, the pedal would have shown up and I would have demanded a refund.
3) You said you sometimes delivered beyond what was ordered to make up for late delivery times. That wasn't the case for me?? I still paid you the full price from the beginning and you only fixed one of the problems (toggle switch) I'm still left with an enclosure that you basically told me "well, enclosure is finished so I can't do anything about it"
For a while, I thought you might be on drugs. Seriously.
I was just in awe, as I never encountered this with any other builder (and I've had a TON of custom stuff built for me)
I hope in the future you don't dick around other people the way you did with us.
