Re: The new Ampeg git amps
Tried the GVT15H, liked it very much
tried it on full volume with USA Dlx Tele and my Yamaha, since the Yamaha has hotter pickups, it gives a nice crunch, seriously great sound... the USA tele was cleaner, punchy and ballsy as well though
i'd love to own it, could be a tad cheaper though

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
I'd really like to play through one of these. DarkAxel, what was the headroom like? I'd like to have something that stays nice and clean (my sovtek is kind of a mixed bag for that) at balls out volume.

Truth!
I got mine (gvt15H) on the cheap from my GC pal, 15W head cuz I have plenty of cabs. Also operates in triode mode for 7.5W and it absolutely rules thus far. I've got a V4 too, of course they're nothing alike in terms of volume but they share similarities due to that unique Ampeg EQ, not miles apart sonically. Mine has the 2x6V6 power section plus that 3-band Baxandall EQ so you can dial in a shit ton of different tones/sounds. Runs very quiet, no hiss/hum etc and takes pedals wonderfully. Nothing I use on a big ass board has any issues getting along with that amp.
Guts look nice, Korean built (better than Chinese imo), tubes are excellent (EHX or JJ), and comes with a 5 year warranty and AWESOME customer service! NOTE: The gvt15 (head and combo) had some early reverb issue, hum from the Belton unit. It's been resolved but they're still not expected back in stock until June or sum shit. Anyway, they straight sent me a brand new amp after one phone call, just like that.
It's perfect for home/studio/jam and will get super loud for 15W. I run 2 Emperor 2x12's with it pretty regular and it screams, getting a matching Emperor Vert 2x12 built for it now. Tons of clean headroom but it'll break up pretty nice at the highest gain and master settings, nothing really high gain though. Reverb is good too, kind of a mix between a surfy Fender spring and a spacious hall. Really surprised how much I love this amp though I did get it for around $300 with that GC discount which was an insane bargain. Goes for around $500 in reality though. Then again, call Sweetwater and ask if they'll match a GC 10-15% coupon. They will, no questions asked, save a little....
Lastly, I had some 70s era grill cloth left over from my recent V4 overhaul and decided to give this one some retro-stylings as well. Dunwich Nick hooked it up with a replica 70s era Ampeg "baby badge" which looks BADASS, finished fitting and wrapping the baffle recently, much better now.

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
Finally got to play one of these today.
It fucking ruled! I can't get over how much I liked it. I kept trying other amps and then kept going back to the Ampeg.
I was basically set on buying an old Mesa, but this thing REALLY impressed me. Very clean up the dial, but punchy and ballsy is totally right.
My heart says 52w version, but my lady friend and apartment would be much happier with the 15w. Head or combo?
What do you say guys?

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
Even the 15W version has A LOT of headroom, but it really depends mainly on your pickups... i'Ve played it with a lot of guitars in our shop and usually it stays clean and loud though

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
this is sweet. i've been looking for a nice head for me mesa evm thiele cab. so the reverb is digital? on zzounds it says "spring reverb" but looking into the back of the unit, i think maybe they meant "sounds like spring reverb"

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
Headroom wasn't really my concern anymore--I run Seymour Duncan antiquity II JM pickups which are pretty low output, I cranked the thing way up yesterday and still got a nice clean (as long as I didn't max the mids too much).
It seems wrong to blow pretty much my whole amp budget on a 15w amp though.
I'd much rather buy the head and cab but it's so much extra money...

I'm pretty sure digital-only reverb in that series. The Belton Brick is a module used in a ton of recent boutique pedals for reverb sounds, and people seem pretty happy with them. I normally haven't liked digital effects modules integrated in tube amps, but for some reason I'm much more willing to suspend disbelief and past experience and give this one a try.

yeah, i like that it seems like it would be harder to break than a real spring. i'm always paranoid that the spring reverb in my big amp is going to break during transportation.

Rest assured that it's just some wires and a spring and if it breaks you can easily replace... I have springs from the 60's that are still going strong... Don't worry...

Re: The new Ampeg git amps
Anyone have any experience playing shows with a 15 watter?
If I run it through my 4x12 would that project enough to be heard?
