Fancy Pants Analog Delays
Since I just dropped a big chunk of change for the console III I figure I'll make a big pedalboard. But I need a really good analog delay. Has to sound damn good. Has to get weird. And I'd prefer modulation.
I plan on using this post dirt and running it into some kind of fancy digital delay. I have one of those Muzas and it sounds better than any I've compared it with, but if you have suggestions I'm all ears. And running everything into a looper (possibly that vox looper that's coming out this month). Ones that I've looked at include the Deluxe memory man (there are lots of versions nowadays and I don't know which is best), and that new moog delay. Both look pretty sweet, but I don't really know what else is out there.

Old 70s dmms with the panasonic chips are beautiful
Disaster transport is tape voiced digital delay but you couldnt tell
Same goes for the sunny day delay, which has chorus (one in bst)

No experience with the SDD, but I've owned the other two (a DT jr anyway) and both are super kickass! It annoyed me a little that you can't change the modulation speed on the DMM and the dry/wet mix control reduces the dry volume a bit as you increase the wet level, but the delay and the modulation are so warm and delicious. The Disaster Transport sounds really tape-y in the best way, the tone control is very useful, the dry signal stays at pretty much the same level as bypass all the time and it can do more repeats (at least more than MY DMM, they can be variable depending on how they've been calibrated).

This.
And I'll add the Endangered Audio Research AD4096 delay.
Both the EAR and DMB are true analog and both sound amazing.

Or stop being a bitch and get a space echo/the korg equivalent.

I haven't had a chance to check out the EAR. How is it? it looks awesome, but I won't give up my Lunar Echo.

I feel the same way...
I think I'll just keep both

It's RLLLYY nice. It's classy as hell sounding, and is less crazy than the DMB.
The infinity mode is deliciously tasty, it hovers right on the edge of self-oscillation without going over....SWEET.

Re: Fancy Pants Analog Delays
I'd just go with the avocado doorstop (Space echo) if I wanted fancy and what made me happy in the analog department.
Self-oscilating wierd from bucket brigade-esque stuff is cheap now (from digital emulations to more modern circuits), so you can get that with a host of cheapish stuff.
But nothing quite works like the tape.
And nothing will have you swearing like tape when it's being finicky, just to be warned. ;0

Re: Fancy Pants Analog Delays
my 70s DMM does some excellent analog delay with warm decays and pretty fucked up modulation. the modulation can switch between chorus and vibrato and can go from lush to straight up topsy turvy. the blend knob is pretty fun for the modulation too.

Sounds cool. You gonna do a demo soon? Less crazy? ehh Is the infinity kinda like on the Timeline when you hold the footswitch?

Re: Fancy Pants Analog Delays
Wrecked mode in the Lunar Echo crashes any mod section I've heard in a delay. I'm kinda over the chorus mod effect in delays. I would rather have pitch shift stuff or flange/phase.

Re: Fancy Pants Analog Delays
Yep, a demo of the EAR is on the block....soon.
Yeah, DMB mod section gets nuts.
The infinity mode is kinda like the timeline, but not as "steady" or constant. It's VERY interactive with how all the controls are set, as well as pick attack, etc...
