Sunn amps for alternative rock?

Post by ImGir »

i want to buy a sunn beta lead, but i dont know if it would be a good amp for certain genres i want to play like, alternative rock, noise rock, indie rock and shoegaze
school me on sunn solid state amps please
this is my gear, dont have a camera ATM
big muff nyc reissue, hardwire stereo chorus, mantra overdrive, boss bf-2, boss ds-2, Tc electronics trinity reverb
i just want to know if i can play with dirt and modulation without sounding like king buzzo or another stoner or doom rock guitarrist

Sunn solid state are great amps. I had a Beta Lead for a few weeks and I only got rid of it because I rely on pedals for my drive and not my amp. The drive on the Beta Lead is legendary and terrific. The cool thing is you can also use it as a pre-amp for another amp too!

Yep, the beta will rock and rock HARD. It will take pedlulz extremely well, just different sounding than a tube pre/power combo.

ROCK. HARD.. Yeeaahhh.

Do it, you wont be disappointed. :thumb: Great touring amps, no need to worry about tubes breaking down and their loud as hell. And as excane said, they love the pedals.

Sunn amps are good for all music. They just get associated with the doom crowd a lot.

BINGO BONGO THIS

I've used my Coli 880 in countless drastically different bands. Shit, a few times, I played it in a jazz context. Buy it, don't regret anything.

Exactly. MOST amps will work for MOST kinds of music, provided the wattage and headroom work for your required volume.
This is especially true if you use pedals for your distortion. If you need amp overdrive, then obviously you want a dirty amp.

I use a Sunn Concert Bass for bass and guitar with all my pedals and its the shit. I had borrowed a beta bass for a long time and loved that too. And you can pick up old ones for a song, I know you can find a Concert bass head for $150 all over the place.

look for a sunn enforcer if you can. a more modern sunn head with an overdrive channel. good for crunchy rawk. blisteringly loud, too.
