Recommend me a reverb pedal?

Post by Mduffy »

I just traded my hot rod deluxe for a 70's bassman head and a 112 open backed cab. It sounds great, I play with a lone star American strat with single single hum. The only thing missing from my sound is reverb. I loved the soaking tone that the deluxe gave me when the reverb was cranked.

I play with a boss bd2 mostly always on for tone, and a few delays.

What reverb pedal would sound closest to the tanks in the hot rod?

The Subdecay Spring Theory is a good choice for a spring sim in a small form factor. Boss also makes a reverb that's modeled after old fender reverbs. You could also look into a used Danelectro Spring King if you want a physical spring for a decent price. Of course, if you have a bit of money set aside and want to go the spring route, you could look into a Van Amps Sole Mate.

Stupid expensive now, but I love the sound of the Malekko Spring Chicken.

How are those Little Lanilei True Spring Reverbs? Always curious about those. It's a real spring reverb in a little box yeah?

My ghost echo really fattens up my tone and breaths life into my fuzzzzzzzy tones, but I use it more subtley than drippin'. What I have heard from the Dr. scientist RRR is very impressive for driiiiipin wet tones.
Fuzz, reverb, delay.

having been after a similar thing I found the wampler faux spring to be the best available

I didn't find the spring theory to be as impressive (i did get to demo one). Needless to say Wampler is sending me a Faux Spring for my rig :)

The demos I heard online of the vanamps left me uninspired.

My choice would be the Dr Scientist Mini Reverberator or alternatively for a less rootsy type feel the Boss RV2/RV3 (Rv2=better simple verbs, RV3=amazing mode 11 or whatever, the last one lol) or Digitech Digi Verb. All three are class choices and range from about $50 second hand to whatever the MiniR is new.

If you want spring, buy the Cathedral that's in BST. Dem toan controls are awesome.

For everything else, RRR.
