Oh shit OD. I realise that means I'm a wanker but it's true. As long as the OD's a singing tree.

Dirt.

I just don't like playing clean, even if it's a lighter fuzz with the guitar volume rolled back to 6ish

to clarify, fuzz--which in my world is a continuum from the Distortion+ to the most radical thing i use, which right now is a Great Wall--is second both in the Most Used and Most Interesting categories. it's the crossover effect, other than reverb, between the kind of classic-rock shit that people in my age cohort usually play and the weirdball stuff i do on my own.

Oh... mine would actually have to be reverb... over the years, just found that it's the perfect little addition to any sound that gives it just enough character without being overwhelming... or you can make it overwhelming and that's cool too.
This message is most likely very old, so things said here probably don't apply to the current state of all things devi ever. As always, you can visit www.deviever.com for the latest on devi ever related projects.

Fuzz.

Honestly, I'd be perfectly fine and capable just playing clean, but if I had to pick just one effect to use it'd be a fuzz pedal of some sort.

Although thats my favorite effect to use.. my favorite effect to hear is that shoegazing whammy/vibrato technique combined with a wah.

Fuzz. What fuzz sounds I'm into changes all the time, but I always fuckin love fuzz, and the one pedal I definitely can't do without is a fuzz of some sort (right now algal bloom because it's teh secks).

I would have said delay anytime up to 6 months ago probably, and I had lots of them and did crazy stuff, and I still love delay and will totally get an insanely complicated one when I have the money around, but now one simple delay is enough for me, it's all about dat fuzz!

Oh, I got it.

Favorite effect (from R.G. Keen's website):
"Noise addition: Noise (hiss, rumble, etc) is deliberately added to the input signal. If this is done with restraint and matching the input signal envelope, it can add a breathing effect like the hiss of air in a flute. Filtered low frequencies can add a growling quality."

Of course it's hard to pick just one, but if I think about it, I'm consistently surprised by how much I love modulation in comparison to how much i THINK I like it.

I think my list would go:

1. Fuzz (yah, shocker)
2. Modulation (in order: phase, chorus, flange)
3. Tremolo
4. Delay
5. Verb
