Big Pedalboard = Synth Use Is Weak Sauce?

Post by behndy »

hurm. thinking about getting an ipad2 for me and mah singer (she uses Kontakt with a laptop and a midi keyboard, the 'pad would be a supplement, not a substitute) to use for synth shtuff live.

is it like a weird thing to have in conjunction with a large pedal board? kinda like..... i've spent a lot of time figuring out pedals that let me do more Not Real Bass Toanz or more synthy sounds from a bass, so is adding an ACTUAL synth weird? or making all the pedz seem a bit redundant?

currrrrrriouuuuus what ch'all think.

Get a switcher and switch between Bass -> Pedals and Ipad Synth -> Pedals. SO MANY OPTIONS!
Problem. Solved.

Running some kind of synth additionally to the normal setup should be cool as hell. Just imagine some background synth sweeps and swooshes and then suddenly all hell breaks loose and über loud synth sounds destroy everything!

Playing a 6 string bass oversized guitar is weird. You having an ipad is weird. Weird suits you. Bonus points if the ipad adds to your live performance or allows you to take some of the synth sound pedals off so you can add more fuzz and delay.

Toolz is toolz. As long as you get cool sounds out of something, that's all that matters.

However, if I find that you're using it to make ukelele noises for twee-pop songs, we're gonna have some problems.

Thank you, jrmy.

How come there's no "blushing" emoticon?

Not weird at all, I'm sorta in the same boat. My Seismic Feedback rig has both my bass and pedalboard and a Microkorg, although we're still not in playing-out mode at this point.

Pretty much this..

I've had a long battle going with making a bass guitar into a synth and have gone pretty far with it but... it is just so much easier to just get some kind of synth... and in the long run cheaper  plus then you can have two things going at once if you want AND you can run the "real" synth through the pedalz :thumb:

yah. i'm really impressed with some of the synth stuff on the 'pad, especially the Animoog and the Maschine. having a self contained stripped down version of Maschine that doesn't need a laptop? fucking GOLDEN.

i was kinda thinking maybe the same size/slightly smaller pedal board, then a tiny 3 pedal board that could be mounted near the pad for a More Knob Manipulation, Less Stompy setup. and a little midi keys controller. 'cause i SUCK at keys anyway. no need for more than an octave and a half.

but then i'd be able to tap woth the left hand and do silly synth stuff with the right hand. need to get caught up with some monies and try that shits out.

yay! we think alike!!

.... except for the Uke Wee Punk Reggae Nekid Party Times. THAT. has my ATTENTION.

buy.... a...... Maschine?

they are TITS. the Mikro looks fucking awesome. i'd actually be into a Mikro/iPad/Midi Keys setup for either this project (we went with the name Blood Party. i LIKE it.) or a noise solo thingy. so much GOOD.

oh gawd. don't tempt me. that's SO the other direction i was thinking about. shit. could do that, a midi keys thing, then bass.

PLAY THREE INSTRUMENTS AT ONCE. AND THAT'S BEFORE KEYBOARD SPLITS.
