Artist for a comic

Post by Roseweave »

I really want to work with someone on a comic. I'm pretty okay at writing, but I'm not so good at drawing. While this is a bit of an unfair relationship given drawing is harder work, it is still a necessary step due to my incredible lack of ability to draw sequential art.

I'm not sure where to look, though. I kind of have a specific style in mind, well actually I have a bunch of different styles in mind, but anyone I find who does one of those styles is either super duper busy or not interested in doing a comic right now.

It's a dark sci-fi/fantasy comic so I want it to have a slightly kinda gothy kind of art style(either kind of lots of sharp sketchy lines, or heavy inking, or that kind of effect you do in photo editor to make it look like heavy ink, though that said I'd be the one doing that, so just an art style that's "compatible" with that), and importantly very "comic booky". I dislike how most art nowadays looks overly photoshopped, all kinda soft edges and all that, or is like way too detailed. I don't mind using photoshop type things, I just don't use them the same way these guys do.

I don't know where to go really, it's hard to search on Devart for the right thing, shame there wasn't a "browse by style". It's pretty influenced by music as much as existing comic books(it's also pretty manga/anime influenced), because of the way music tends to conjure up imagery(mainly some of the characters, the world is more based on a bunch of random things), so the closest thing to success I've had is browsing for art of the bands that influenced it, but unfortunately output of that has gone pretty dead lately.

I'm not sure what the best idea would be at the moment. I think I have a good idea, but :(

I like the artsy vibe from this forum, in terms of the less goffy influence, so I thought people could help. I want the comic overall to have a very artsy, counter culture vibe.

The best way I could describe the comic would be a kind of cross between the X-men and the Authority, with a strong fantasy and sci-fi influnce in it. Witches and wizards and giant robots. :idk: I suppose it'd be most like some crazy Final fantasy type game than any existing comic I know of, though I'm sure there's a few I haven't read yet. The main team kinda has a similar role to Celestial Being in Gundam 00, but less militant. Though I guess again that'd be more like the Authority.

hit every one for a subscription to see the rest.

I only draw characters though really. Even if I could manage it being sequential, imagine if I need to draw say a car or the side of a building. For some reason I can't manage that.

I don't feel like I want to do this alone anyway... while it's very intimate to me it feels like it needs to be fleshed out by someone else.
