New WHAMMY!
Hi there.
It's been a while since I've had my Whammy, and I miss it. Guess there is a new version that is true bypass... maybe I'll get one!

I've always wanted to try one of those in their various forms. The pitch shifting down seems so spot on

It's polyphonic now too. The guitarist in my covers band has the Whammy DT that came out last year, and it is pretty goddamned cool. He uses it for when we need to randomly drop down to A or some shit for a song or two. It sound pretty badass, as long as you have some kind of dirt on with it. Without any dirt, it's a little digital and squeaky.
I still rock my ancient XP-100, it does everything I want it to do, and I actually like that it freaks out a bit and warbles around sometimes. It's beautifully imperfect

Yeah, I think there are probably countless pedals like this that probably track waaaaay better, but I think that the weirdness of the Whammy is where its charm lies. There are POGs and HOGs and all other kinds of shit, but I still like the Whammy the best for the unique sounds it can produce. Sorta crazy like "underwater" kind of tones. And the built-in expression can't be beat.
$200 is a great price for a seemingly "upgraded" Whammy.

Totally!

Re: New WHAMMY!
At times I miss my Whammy, but it's hard to justify one when I have a POG 2. If the new one can do good polyphonic tracking, I might consider it as a worthwhile addition. The expression pedal made it very fun and innovative.
The glitchy-ness was part of the charm though. Almost like a strange reverb. The 'My Iron Lung' effect.
Now if they invent a POG with an expression pedal (or exp. jack), that would be the perfect octave pedal.
....That just gave me an idea. Anybody have a blend circuit in a volume pedal?

The new Whammy has a Classic mode as well as the new DT/Poly mode so you can still get the My Iron Lung goodness as well as the better tracking.

And still no 5th/Octave Harmony option

I love my whammy, but I've never noticed the need for true bypass.

I did notice a need for true bypass. It definitely colored my tone for the worse - but I DID run it at the end of an enormous chain of effects. PSH. The only thing I don't dig is the weird digital sound when it's on and it's your clean signal - like with the octave up at heel down. Nevertheless I'm totally gonna get one down the road. Love how that treadle looks!

I always love imperfect pitch shifters an bad tracking octavers, bandmates don't always understand that though

See, to me it always had that "so ugly it's cool" look. I guess that's why I didn't win the BILF contest

I always loved pairing my Whammy with my Blue Box. Especially back when I first got introduced to lightning bolt.
