Hahaha....I know...I'm looking at this thing thinking about how I need to scale down and get rid of stuff unless I really need it because this is just too much invested here.....but man....that pic Excane has of all his pedals. Just dayum.

tell me WHY the fuck does this (the bass) sound so incredible? lush and open and clear and.. hell man
so I guess actives are out of the question? or would an amp do it? or is it a pickup config? impedance? WHAAAAAAAAAT?!? I'm like, going insane here.

I can't afford a VB-99, or rather I am unwilling to sacrifice everything that would have to go to get one. If it is mind blowing enough I may be willing to make those sacrifices for the VB-99. I finally ran into some great sounding audio clips of the V-Bass and I decided to do it. Those youtube clips all sucked balls.
I am pretty sure that I am not going to bust out the V-Bass with my band, at least for a long time. It will most likely be at home and with my Computer music stuff, which after I get a dedicated music computer, will be up and running again.
What made you decide to go in this direction? More options?
I mean the Octavius Squeezer is cool. It can do enough for the little bit of synthy stuff in my band, plus the programable filter, octaver and fuzz seperately are viable, usable options.
I used to mess around with Maschine a bunch, before I got in this band. Occasionally I would play out with my Maschine and a laptop. It was cool. But eventually I would get bored, DJing, kind of doing controlerism with my own stuff. SO...I decided that I was going to work my bass into the electronica stuff. Thus began Synth Wars.
I have been through a lot of pedals and setups. I had a Roland GR-55. It was so close, but not quite. It is a bit more guitar oriented, the latency was not horrible most the time, sometimes it was unbearable and depending on the patch nonexistant sometimes. Alas, my timeline GAS got the best of me and I got rid of it. So, I am now just wanting something that can do that next level type of bass synth. I would say that the V-Bass is probably the second best option for an all in one unit, next to the VB-99 (more effects, and more parameters mostly), both have almost no latency from all reports. The ability to accept Midi timeclock is important to me. If I can get enough of what I want from the V-Bass, then maybe another TimeLine will seal the deal for me because it can do both band and this electronica stuff. If I am like, this great but I want more, then I might really move a bunch of stuff to get the VB-99.

A big part of it has to do with the recording. It sounds like it's properly mic'ed / DI or combo of both.
Either way, sounds great.

I was looking at my board...and if I valued all of it by how much I could get for it used....it would be like $2,700 or more....board, flight case, power supply....everything.
Delta and his experimentation has me wondering how much a laptop would cost that could cover most of those sounds or even IF there's a laptop or some other thing like that where the sound quality is equal to or better than most of these individual FX. I mean....I have a Timeline, Goatkeeper, Faye's Her (incoming), Megalith, etc....so I'm not thinking there's anything out there that can do all of that crazy stuff......just really has me wondering.
The nature of the beast is that guitar waves are smaller and therefore can be converted to midi faster than big ol bass waves. So unless you want to really throwdown some dough to combat the problem, then you are stuck. There are a few midi basses out there. Some send the midi via the fret. I mean we are only a matter of some technological breakthrough away, and/or the current best technology becoming cheaper.

yah. all the audio to midi conversion stuff i've tried sucked buttholes. just sucked them inside out.
i REALLY want one of those Radio Sumphin or whatever fret connection based midi controllers. but they quoted me around $2.5 or $3 g's i think when i asked about a 6 string build. if they'd do a good fanned fret i might be in.

I hear ya on the Industrial Radio Bass Midi controllers.
Roland gets pretty close with there pickup and COSM. The other type of synth engine they have on the GR-55 got frustrating, the COSM synths were really good. The V-Bass is a COSM synth engine so I have hope that it will be really good, not perfect, but good enough for now.

Fretless through a Polytope with a static detune setting is very forgiving for your intonation.
Also sounds awesome with an octaver and fuzz...but then again most things do.

Whooaa...Fretless.
I just tracked down a Peavey CyberBass, it is built by the same guy that builds the Industrial Radio Midi Basses. I found the Peavey for CHEAP. It is essentially works the same as the Industrial Radio Bass. I am not sure if it is restricted to Midi modules or what. I am going to research this more...

So.....hmmmmm.....you guy's starting talking and I realized you were discussing a Midi bass....which would mean not my Status. And my first reaction was "fuck all of you. Go to Hell and die".
But then I saw this one was kinda sechsy:
http://www.industrialradio.com.au/products/pro5.php
So I slightly warmed up to it.....but I have no fucking clue about this whole world of stuff....I mean...I would need to get this bass....and a laptop to plug it into?.....and does it still need an Amp? Or just goes into an amp with no laptop needed? I have no fucking clue. And would the World of FX that this bad boy opens me up to be able to compare to my pedal board that has a Goatkeeper, Timeline, and soon to be Faye's Her...or is it kinda limited? And even then, 90% of the time, I'm either totally clean or using a slight OD to get a nasty rock vintage Mesa Boogie sound....can this do that all out rock shit or is it pretty much lacking in that department and this is for the people who are doing whacked out stuff most of the time?
So intriguing. But if it costs about what I could sell my pedal board and bass for, and it could cover that ground or do better, I might look into it.....if it's more expensive or won't be up to the standards my rig is, now....I'll just be satisfied looking at it. I've never looked at this stuff. Gotta do some reading.
I'm having a midlife crisis at 29, it would seem.
EDIT: So this guy would cost about the same as my bass and all of my pedalboard.....and it would make it possible to track better using a laptop for FX....I would still be spending out of pocket just to get that laptop....right? So it looks a good $2,000 to $3,000 out of my range....fuck that jazz...I'm back to happy with my rig.

Re: The talk bass mega bitch thread. (aka Bhendy's Starship)
That Industrial Radio Bass can be hooked up to an amp, and play clean bass (or OD Bass). The midi can also be hooked up to a Keyboard and play whatever patches in there. Probably would DI it from there. It can be run into an Audio Interface (that has Midi) and into a computer, and from there the sky is the limit as far as effects and synths and midi instruments go, run it into Ableton or something. Then run the audio out of the Audio Interface.
With your fEARful set up, you could figure out a way to run audio into that, if not direct into the board should be fine.
Depending on how you set it up, you could have the 1/4 inch output and midi output at the same time.
