the guitarist in my band (we're a three piece) uses a Boss Super Octave OC3 through a Orange TH100, Big Muff and Marshall 1960b 4x12. My question is... were Octave pedals meant to be used for chords or single notes? he plays chords and I'll play the same thing on bass and it SOMETIMES sounds out-of-tune or wonky. I feel dumb asking this because I know that an Octaver puts your guitar sound an octave up or down etc. He just doesn't believe that it sounds weird sometimes (depending on the note/chord) and I need clarification.


It depends on your technique.

Does your guitar player know that the OC-3 isn't polyphonic? Seems strange to me to use it to play chords. Also if he's using the octave down and you guys aren't playing unison you may hear some wobblyness. I think you might be hearing the OC-3 glitching on some of his chords but also close intervals just don't sound as 'musical' in the lower registers, so maybe you're hearing some of that too. Tell him to open his fat little ears.

The OC-3 IS polyphonic. Looked at it today when we jammed. He messed around with it a little more today, it sounds much better!

He's right OC-3 is polyphonic. The OC-2 version I think you scrambled your brain with isn't polyphonic.
