I usually hate mainstream hip hop, but Kanye uses some great beats, which is the main reason I listen to hip hop. Sometime his arrogance/persona/materialism is annoying, but I like the contrast between his antics and his self-criticism.
i hate kanye's rapping, but shit, his beats are dope.
ain't nobody touching that fool, listen to 808s and heartbreaks to everyone who hates kanye

FUCK. THAT.
I'm not getting tricked into that again. Sat through all of Graduation and My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and hated every moment of it. No joke the moment that Elton John/Bee Gees rip came on I knew he was just going to exploit the fuuuuuuuck out of that hook (and others) without adding anything interesting to it. Really, I dissed on Kanye before about his rapping, but I hate his beats ooooohhhhh sooooo much moooooore!!!!
On a positive note, Spirit of the Apollo by N.A.S.A. is an awesome album.

Ima let you finish, but is it weird that I just read that it's Kanye West's birthday?
Seriously, I will say, for all my qualms about him, at least he gave us "Ima let you finish but..."
EDIT: And for the record, Kanye even appears on Spirit of the Apollo meaning he's not all bad. He just needs someone else's help to seem worthwhile to me.

Astronautalis and Scroobius Pip pretty much for new stuff. I've been trying to find more good new rap, but unsuccessfully so far. Any recs? Danny Brown seems pretty decent from the couple of tracks I've just listened to.

Loving Doomtree right now, I've got to get more into these guys. I forgot about that song POS was in, I really like his bit but never remembered who it was to look up.
I like Doomtree, but I never listen to them. The beats are interesting and the lyrics are great, but they just never click. I'm not sure why. I dug P.O.S.'s last solo album a lot, so I hope his new one will be great, too.

You ever listen to Mike Mictlan? He's probably my favorite. POS's new album dropon my birthday (September 18) and I've heard about 4 songs from it live, its a lot different, some of the songs are straight dance songs, everything has sounded so awesome so far, I'm beyond excited.
Atmosphere The Streets Cyprus Hill (I know I know) Really like all the Violent LA Stuff Snoop and Cube and Such (WE LOVE YOU EASY E!!!) Flobots Spinning Paul's Boutique pretty regularly Knaan Lupe Fiasco

If you want good KAnye, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is by far the best. Cannibal Ox is amazing, very thoughtful rapping and intelligent beats. Nas's Illmatic is probably my favourite rap album, just amazing straightforward 90's rap. WHY CANT I FUCKIN EMBED
