Immortal Technique is probably the only rapper who has ever really impressed me with his lyrics.

Otherwise I just listen to hip hop for the beats (which are 99% lazy shit)

My opinion on your music tastes is on a roller coaster right now. First recommending some awesome afrobeat in another thread, but then this! :wha?:

Kanye = the gold standard of non-interesting self-centered rapping.

On a different note, does anybody else avoid the word Rap as a noun at all costs (gerunds don't count)? Rap is just a vocal style that typically accompanies Hip-Hop music.

Does Death Grips count? Surprised no ones mentioned them. I've been listening to Exmiltary sooo much.

That's about it for me.

We got some good rappers here in Minneapolis

I've seen Doomtree live a few times and POS even more, they never fail to impress. Best rap crew out there right now. Check out each members individual albums as well, all are excellent.

Astronautalis put on the best show I've ever seen at Soundset this year and I don't see any band or artist beating that for quite sometime. Also one of the best at freestyling, like mind blowingly good. At most shows he has the crowd pick topics for him to rap about and then he freestyles for 5-10 minutes straight. It's impressive.

Saw Kendrick and Danny Brown at Soundset too. Kendrick was meh but he sounds better live so thats good. Thought Danny Brown just had an awfully annoying voice so I left :idk:

More for you:
Toki Wright
Brother Ali
Audio Perm
Prof
Macklemore
Pac Div
I Self Devine

That's a list with a little bit of variety as far as subject and style go

I've really been digging Shabazz Palaces. Black Up was so cool.

Also this:

Lately its been Death Grips and Kanye for me.
& Drake's track "Take Care."

I usually hate mainstream hip hop, but Kanye uses some great beats, which is the main reason I listen to hip hop.
Sometime his arrogance/persona/materialism is annoying, but I like the contrast between his antics and his self-criticism.
