DIY Fuzz Factory mods

Post by farfyvo »

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so hi and all that!

I've built a DIY fuzz factory from this schematic:

Image

I've been using it for a while now but want to make it more interesting.

I thought if I could have LDR's on each of the potentiometers I could use LED's sequenced by my computer to have automated control over each of the pots.

Being more of a software than hardware guy though I have hit a wall.

I cant seem to work out how to wire up the LDR's so that they control the parameters while allowing the original potentiometers to retain their control.

I think the problem I'm having is that the pots are wired strangely in this schematic from what I'm used to and the LDR only has two leads as opposed to the Pots three.

Also having the LDRs wired so that darkness = no resistance and bright light = the most resistance so that when I don't want to use the LDR's in the pedal I can just put some tape over them and go back to using the pots.

Some advice would be very much appreciated.

It wouldn't be difficult at all. You could wire one leg of the LDR to pin 1 of stab, and the other leg to a switch. Then connect the switch's other leg to pin 2 of stab.

You can do that also with the gate knob and the comp knob.

Adding the switch that way enables the LDR only when the switch is active, going back to normal when disengaged

Ah right that seems simple enough!

Would this work on the Drive and Volume knobs as well? Or is that more complicated?

Should I try and match the LDR's resistance to the pot so for a 10k pot I'd need an LDR that has a maximum range of 10k?

(and just to confirm your counting pins left to right on the picture?)

Thanks mate.

Ah my mistake, pins 2-3. That is reading left to right.

I think drive and volume might be a little more complicated, but it might be worth a shot if you have alligator clips!

Nice, I'll try it out. On a similar note can I replace a wah potentiometer with an LDR LED like this? Or again, more complicated?

It would/should work. You could put the LDR in the base of the wah, and then add an LED to the top treddle and have a potentiometer to control the brightness of the LED

Cool. So if there are three connections on the wah pot positive, ground and control. Would I just connect the LDR to positive and control and ignore ground?
