Wow! You serious that it's Jason? I wish Metallica would issue a remaster, but they won't.

Yeah that is definitely jason's playing. In those vids, the bass is a little out of sync but you can hear his tracks alone. He was instructed by Hetfield to play the relentless downstrokes throughout the album although this sounds like alternating picking to me. All I know is I like his aggressive picking style - it is a raw and dirty!

And justice for JASON!

Blackened is pretty badass if you isolate the bass, too.

playing starts at 0:56

I pretty much hate all of the big four for varying reasons, but AJFA has literally the shittiest guitar tone on the planet. To say nothing of the nonexistent bass.

AJFA is a great album even with the lack of bass. If you ever got to see them live while Jason was still with the band, you could tell he was a great bass player. And his solo's were always impressive (I'm surprised they even gave him solo time...) It's not his fault he wasn't Cliff Burton. Master is my favorite Metallica albums (of ANY album actually), but Justice comes in a close second.

I don't have a problem with people not liking Metallica, but it's a shame somewhere along the line it became cool to hate them. I have hope for future generations though, my six year old daughter absolutely loves them and is always asking to hear MoP. And for the haters in the Cemetary Gates thread, you should see her rocking out to Pantera. :yay:

I saw Metallica with Jason on the ReLoad tour, might have been 96? He was ridiculously good, both as a muso and with regard to his stage presence. Shame he's not in the spotlight a little more these days.

Not to derail this topic into a Jason Newstead appresh thread but check out this band sexoturica that Newstead sings and plays bass in. It is very punky and thrashy!

First concert I ever saw was Metallica on the Justice tour at Cobo Arena in Detroit in November of '88. Headbanged so hard that I couldn't get out of bed the next morning because my neck hurt so bad! Love this record, though Ride or Kill 'Em All is probably my favorite.

I started paying attention to Metallica on this album, and I still think it's great. It was fresh to have songs with so many good riffs.
