Rehousing Boss Pedals

Post by Jwar »

Hey guys! I was wondering if there was a good tutorial or any good info on this online anywhere. I was thinking of trying to rehouse my BF3. Why? No reason really, mostly for fun.

The only thing I'm concerned about is the fact that the BF3 has setting that your have to hold the stomp down to use. Would it be possible to split this thing into two stomps? Like one momentary stomp for that specific setting and one regular stomp to engage the pedal? Also true bypassing those things would be nice as well but not that big of a deal. I really can't tell the difference like some can.

I've searched here, diystompboxes, google, but all the info I find is kind of crappy.

I'm interested in this sort of thing as well; I'd love to re house my TU-3 into something with a soft-touch switch and top-mounted jacks.

Saw a rehouse that Analogman did for Jack White, looked sweet. http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showth ... p?t=553043

If I mess it up I'd just get a Pitch Black, the one I bought my girlfriend is cool.

Not to pimp myself, but for the sake of education, here's a rehoused Boss BF-2 I did for a fella over in Denmark (helluva dude) just this week:

Image

All I did was replace the switch with a regular SPST soft touch momentary switch. It worked perfectly. Only problem was that the bottom retaining nut had to be all the way down, so the switch is sticking up at maximum height, which is just about as tall as the knobs, but I really like the soft touch switches really low profile.

As far as separating the two functions on the BF3 into two switches I'm not so sure - It seems like it could be an in depth circuit modification. I would assume a replacement with the momentary, however, would still prove to be identical to it - you'd just hold it down for that particular function. Pew...pew? Oh jia, the 1590BB with top mounted jacks is about a 1/4" smaller than the boss width with "wide style" (not pancake) jacks plugged in.

On newer models you'll have to desolder the pc mounted 9v jack to replace with a panel mount one, but that's not too big of a deal. This older BF2 had a big'ol panel mount one made for the case that slipped right out .

So do you have to hold the switch down on the one you rehoused Danny? Looks fucking great btw!

Nnooo, just in regards to your BF3 - that switch would still work with the function where you have to hold it down - I think. Otherwise no, it functions like a regular soft on and off. :). No holding required! And thanks peemp!
