There is too much good music in the world... I cannot classified things.
But Tom Waits "Mule Variations" and "Real Gone" are a big influances on my dirt sound.
Neil Young "Le Noise", Wire "Pink Flag" and "Chairs Missing", Rowland S. Howard "Teenage Snuff Film" and lots more are big influences on my sound.

The only part of my gear that have been influanced by a band is my guitar.
Like 10 years ago I was a big fan of Rolins Band with Chris Haskett on guitar.
So I sold my Washburn RS-8V and I got a used PRS CE-22.

1) Failure - "Fantastic Planet"
2) Autolux - "Future Perfect" and the demos before it
3) Hum - "You'd Prefer An Astronaut" and "Downward Is "Heavenward"

That's probably it as far as "gear influence". Those albums, especially Failure, got me into effects in the first place. I've since minimized what I use, so their "gear" influence isn't that relevant anymore... however, the albums are still amazingly influential to me.

I've always chased Weezer's early tones, too, but those are mostly amp distortion.

The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails
In the Absence of Truth by Isis
Pink by Boris
Disintegration by The Cure
Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth

Sonic Youth was the first fuzzy band I liked, The Cure are my modulation/clean tone gods, Isis is probably my favorite band ever but dat bass tone is the specific force behind my choice of album, Boris have the greatest distortion tone and Trent Reznor is my god of everything else.

Gear Influence? Not so much albums that led me any way there more than you guys. I found out about Boomerang Musical Products from wondering what Warren Ellis used to loop, live, and reading some wrong advice.

For me, as far as my taste and what I listen to goes:

1. Radiohead - Kid A/Hail to the Thief (delay, reverb, distortion, Kaoss Pad, electronic drum machines, whammy, etc....seriously though, their whole discography post-Pablo Honey has been my main influence, both musically and gear wise)

2. Muse - Origin of Symmetry (Fuzz masterpiece!)

3. Bloc Party - A Weekend in the City (creative delays, whammying, and especially sampling)

4. Tool - Lateralus/Aenema (gave me the inspiration to pick up the bass, and experiment with simpler setups on guitar with lots of distortion)

5. The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium/Amputechture (where I started to branch out into the crazier effects)
