Yeah, My Peavey head for whatever reason only has a 4 ohm tap. You can plug an extension cab into it, but that drops it down to 2. It's really weird

Random OT side note: I'm still searching for the ultimate speaker that can actually replicate 10-12Hz (not kHz but Hz) while handling 1000watts rms solid state  I want to have a sine wave generator that will pump out 10hz consistently during live shows...... Psycho acoustics FTW!!!!

Just saw this. hahaha, that sounds great. Imagine some modulated delay on it

I dunno about modulated delay, but an oscillator of some type (most likely an lfo) that could oscillate +/- 2hz would be sick, i'd love to get something that could get down to 4hz-8hz but i'd need like 1600watts into a 2x18 or 2x21 to pull that off depending on the venue. Imagine Sunn O))) style music that caused vivid hallucinations when you closed your eyes accompanied by the feeling of extreme panic, pulled off live. :yay:

For those wondering what were yapping about here's a brief synapsis of the psycho-acoustic properties of frequencies below the threshold of human hearing......

delta (0.5 - 4 HZ). Associated with deep levels of relaxation such as sleep
theta (4 - 8HZ). Associated with tranquil states of awareness in which vivid internal imagery can often occur
alpha (8- 12 HZ). Relaxed nervous system, ideal for stress management, accelerated learning and mental imagery
beta (12-30 HZ). Associated with waking/alert states of awareness k-complex (30 - 35HZ). Clarity and sudden states of integration, the “ah-ha experience”

The way they are mixed into the overlaying music can cause opposite effects as well, alot of horror movies like to boost the hell out of about 10-12hz mixed underneath dissonant chords in scenes where there's someone in focus who is unaware of the killer being in their presence. The human body can receive and interpret 10hz but the human ear cannot "hear" it therefore your brain knows it's there but your ear tells you it's not, causing a feeling similar to a 6th sense telling you of impending doom or looming danger, which builds up stress in your body result in a physical reaction to an auditory source.

Agreed, I just need to design something portable enough to be used live that can effectively pull this off.

Since we're here.
What do you guys recommend for 10 inch speakers?
I want to make my 8 ohm cab into a 4 ohm.
Plenty of lows and whatnot.
Sorry to hijack the thread skullservant.

10's are something I have no experience with unfortunately. I've only really owned and used 12's and 15's.

You might be able to rewire the cab for 4 ohms. Whats the rating/specs of your speakers?

Unless you arent digging the way it sounds to begin with... Then I can't help:(

I'm thinking replacing the speaker altogether, so my rig is still portable but has more headroom than it does now.

What kind of cab and what speaker are you using now? I can probably do a lil research and point you in the right direction.
