I'm simply incapable of doing the "Favorite Musicians" thing. I'm too obsessive compulsive. How does one rate Randy Newman against Parliament/Funkadelic? Would such a comparison even matter? I'd fucking drive myself insane.

Antero's Favorite Songwriter Is
Elvis Costello
(Randy Newman, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Joni Mitchell, David Bowie)

The Best Vocalists Ever Are
Sam Cooke
Billie Holiday

Five Guitarists That Antero Considers Influences
Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic - "Maggot Brain" is the single best thing ever done with a guitar, and anyone who doesn't feel the roof of the world crack open when they listen to it is dead inside.
Andy Gill (Gang of Four)
Takashi Mizutani (Les Rallizes Denudes)
J. Hines
Joey Santiago (Pixies)

Favorite Album From Last Year
TV On The Radio - Return To Cookie Mountain. Shit is incredible. legendary. I literally had some sort of spastic attack the first time I heard it. I started laughing hysterically and shouting at the computer. Serious. Whoa. "Wolf Like Me" is my theme song now.

Favorite Artist That Nobody Really Talks About Ever
Holy Sons. Dude is the drummer in Grails, Decline of the West was my 2nd favorite album from last year.

Saxophonist
Coltrane. Duh.

Trumpeter
Bubber Miley! And early Louis Armstrong

Jazz Group
Art Ensemble of Chicago - Les Stances A Sophie

Trunk Rattling Rap Album
The Team - World Premiere
It's a club-oriented rap album. The rapping is solid, the production is actually gorgeous in its texture, and it's solid almost all the way through. This album's existence is a miracle. "On Top of the World" is my OTHER theme song.

Favorite Rappers
1. Ghostface
2. Lil' Wayne
3. Tupac

Guilty Pleasures
Smash Mouth
Doo-wop
"Make It Rain (remix)"

---

Non-Canon Writers of Fiction Who Deserve Deification
Gene Wolfe
Haruki Murakami

5 Pieces of Non-Devi-Ever Gear
Lynx, my Carvin DC135.
Silvertone 1484 head old enough to be my mother
Doug Hammond's Highway 89 Overdrive (DIY)
Niant omni small diaphragm condenser mics
Dr. Scientist Sunny Day Delay

Nice call on "Les Stances A Sophie"---great album! I've been on a huge free-jazz kick lately & AEOC is one of my new favorites.

Hatshirt, I'm also a new convert to T-Rex. The fact that "Electric Warrior" isn't regularly listed in "Top 50 Greatest Albums of All-Time" lists is ridiculous to me.

Thanks to everyone for posting--it's great to see such a wide variety of interests.
