ghost echo vs delay

recently my band started recording and the ONLY pedals i used in the chain were my hoof's aside from one 30 second part that used a prunes and custard. during mixing, i've been adding bits of echo and flange that i typically use live but didn't want to track with for fear of using too much on the front end (and then having to go back and track again. much easier to add that stuff then to take it away...)

ANYWAYS, the point is i'm slowly looking to replace my live pedals to get to an all eqd board for live use. live i use hoof-boss bf2 flanger-mxr carbon copy. right now i'm thinking hoof-sea machine-ghost echo would be the best route. my bf-2 is essentially being used as a chorus anyways, and really only comes on to make feedback and noise passages sound that much whackier. the only thing i'm uncertain of is the GE as a carbon copy replacement. but honestly, i have the carbon copy set up with such a subtlety that i wonder if a nice reverb would suit me better. i strive to eliminate the sound of the regenerations in the carbon copy as much as possible and use it to add depth to solo's and to separate single note-passages from loud mixes with just a hint of echo. i would love to hear from some that have experience with these pedals. is the ghost echo well suited for such a role? or am i better off looking into the EQD delay options? i love the simplicity and style of the GE and am more attracted to that possibility. i just want to make sure i get what's right.

How'd you like hearing from somebody with no experience with either pedal?

From your description of how you use the CC I think the Dispatch Master would be
exactly what you are looking for. You can set the regenerations the same as you
would with the CC and then add a little reverb on top of that.

The Sea Machine is a great chorus, but maybe think about the Disaster Transport (Jr) instead of the ghost echo if you're replacing a delay with it? Turning the tone down can be very ambient and reverb-y, but it's also an amazing delay, I used to have a carbon copy and the DT jr blows it out of the water.

Not sure if I got the CC to do what you're describing; I typically use my delays for the repeats. CC w/regen low or off, regardless of delay time, I got a sort of gating happening, where the gtr did sound a bit fatter but almost compressed as well. How do you set yours? Switching to the GE, notes start to open up and e-x-p-a-n-d/sustain instead of feeling choked off at the end.
I played at moderate volume both clean and slammed with a hoof...

hmm. i keep mine set with regen very low, mix fairly low, and delay time somewhere right of center. maybe 1 o'clock. interesting, this gating you're describing, i wouldn't say i've experienced that. at least not in those terms. do you prefer one pedal to the other or do you find them different enough that its impossible to compare? i really enjoy your description of the ghost echo.

for what it's worth, i always have the CC in front of a very dirty amp. the hoof comes on occasionally and its almost always (if not always) used in conjunction with the CC. guit's are various single coiled fenders, usually my jazzmaster.

I will try to set my CC similar to those settings and see what I can replicate at home tonight.
It is difficult to compare them, pretty different animals. Turning the GE depth up enough will get you a cavernous, almost slapback effect. Again, I use my CC for the echoes. Last night I was able to use the GE with my V4B stack at full rehearsal volume, and it does sound AMAZING. The ambience and depth it adds--simply gorgeous. I do not think it will replace my CC but I will use them together.
The Ampeg stays fairly clean, but I do use a Tone Reaper in front of it 95% of the time. I may tap the pickups for cleaner use but when dirty it's pretty exclusively humbuckers...
