i guess doom is more about the physical sensation you get from that mushy wall of sound. the bass doesn't punch through. it grinds your bones and vibrates the earth.

"Play your gloom axe Stephen O'Malley
Sub bass clinging to the sides of the valley
Sub bass ringing in each last ditch and combe
Greg Anderson purvey a sonic doom."

And it's not so much whether I can hear myself (we have a cool monitor setup for that), its that I want the crowd to be able to pick up my bass as a distinct instrument, and not just some indistinct thump and rumble.

I'm having fun with this! I like the differences in how we go at things   I will totally admit I like the big wall of sound thing, I really enjoy it when the drummer and I are almost one sonic thing. For me punching through vs cutting through is more about the force air hitting people in the chest vs a clear distant sound now that I think on it...mostly I don't play against heavy guitars anymore.. I mostly play popish/classicish/indieish rock... [i.e. what nice little slot do we fit into again? :grumpy: ] and the cover band I play with is americana/blues :idk: so what I do fits.. chances are very high I would not fit in with the stuff your cover band plays

If I'm honest,...I don't really hate tweeters,....I like how they sound clean,...and I actually don't mind them in moderation with fuzz; but they are just so fragile seeming and are the first things to blow the instant you hit em with fuzz.

So what is the alternative?

I've actually been thinking about getting a guitar cab that can handle the power and integrating that into my rig,...perhaps I would need a crossover.

The other thought that just occurred to me is seeing if Avatar would build me a bass cab so that the dimensions are the same and loading it with guitar voiced 10" speakers. What are our thoughts on this? I feel like I could get away with it as the general consensus is that while bass cabs tend to be designed for the speakers that are in them,...not so much for guitar voicing. I could get the high end that I'm looking for with Fuzz and Disto and the low end to thump people in the "chest" from the exisiting B410NEO.

Also,...I think it's worth mentioning that I rehearsed with Mecha Shiva with just the SVT and the B410NEO (sans tweeter). I was plenty loud and was able to push the gain and the poweramp a little harder than I would without the 2x15. Sounded good,...but I still need to get work done to my bass and the CKS strings on it before I feel like I can be completely satisfied with my setup.

Here's the rig as it stands right now. Obviously I took the grate of the 2x12 and tore out the blown tweeter. This setup sounds ungodly. And FUCK is it loud.

I called up Avatar and after I get paid I'm going to have them send me out a new voice coil for my tweeter and a new L-Pad (crossover). I'm gonna have to pay for it,...but it's something like $30 shipped (the cab is 5 years old). He said he'd throw the L-Pad in for free.

Here is an actual useful thread from TB.

Did I mention that I quite respect Bill Fitzmaurice expertise.

Where is a good place to get new tubes? I don't need them right now, but would love a good resource for when I do.

The site I'm most familiar with is Tube Depot,...but I've haven't had to source tubes; yet. So I cannot comment on service.

Powertubes (Eden is loaded with KT88s,...notice prices are for matched pairs).

http://tubedepot.com/6550kt88.html

I'm sure matched pairs are important for some reason,...and I'm not sure what order they should go on when you replace in pairs either(a little help?).

I don't know what brands to look for either.

AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! That's nuts! Didn't realize they cost so much. Hmmm. hahaha. Fuck my life. I just played my tube amp again, then my solid state, then the tube amp. Yea the tubes absolutely win now. I have NO idea what I was thinking before. Foot in mouth here guys.

JWAR your amp has aftermarket tubes in it (pretty expensive ones at that). You should be good for a few years maybe longer, they are about a year old.
