Dem weird physics that allow for hilarious unintentional deaths.
Dat latency-based leading.
You die in 3-4 shots, only way to heal is to find a bunker or friendly medic.
Tanks can't fire across the entire map. Planes don't fly at a million miles per hour AND you can actually shoot them down...with machine guns!
No easymode radar, everyone on your team actually communicates because the spotting system only shows you that a friendly in that area saw something. People even type! They even talk like human beings!
When you accidentally run your plane into a teammate's, you get a "lol" instead of "FAGGOT".
Headbanging in jeeps.
Oh man, this really is the best game ever.
oh gad...how did you get it to work? compatability mode? or is their some unofficial patch floating out there??? do you have to run as administrator?
It ran terribly last time I had it installed(15-20fps constantly), so I gave up on it for a while. Not that it matters, but for convenience's sake I used a noCD version of the most "recent" patch, then I used this tool on the exe that lets older 32-bit programs use more than 4GB of RAM.
Punkbuster is no longer supporting 1942, but I found a user-made version of it that patches the game correctly so you can play online without getting kicked every 5 minutes for PB timeouts.
The magic secret to running the game well seems to lie in Xfire, the messenger program that lets you join friends' games, chat with them ingame and such. It was really fucking up bf1942 for some reason. I just close it before playing and it's been 60+fps all day. Simple fix, if your problems are caused by xfire. If you aren't running it but you're still getting shit performance I dunno what to tell you

You do have to run the installers as administrator for them to work correctly though.
I can upload that stuff if ya want.
