Metal muff with the treble boost engaged???? That pedal to me was always that instant lo-fi olde skewl black metal toanz in box, like driving an icepick into your ears.

Skip, you rule. You hate people so much, you're willing to discredit all human progress, its awesome.
Get a Washburn or Artec 'Soloist Distortion'. Same pedal either way. The same pedal was re-repackaged as the Dragonfly Black Metal BM-1. Total early black metal toanz, and cheap to boot. The HM2 or death metal just don't get the screechy thinness, and are more death metal or grindcore pedals...
Not a big black metal fan, but I've always had good luck with the tactic of [guitar]->[something you shouldn't plug a guitar into]->[all of the knobs all the way up]
Assuming it makes a noise at all, it will probably be at least mildly kvlt.
I want a giant bunny and I want a bunch of regular bunnies and they will form a hive mind and the giant bunny will be the queen bunny and they will attack in swarms.
^ that is an appropriate 666th post, having something remotely to do with Satan. hail.
WeHuntKings, that sounds delicious. I am looking for similar tones. I would like my black metal toan to be not ONLY icepicky treble clash because I am theoretically still the bassist, I need something that is particularly voiced I suppose.
I feel like this search will be just as involving as looking for toneful pedals.
greigoroth wrote:HM-2 is too um... full sounding and middy, or something. It gets you Entombed sounds, not really Burzum. I seriously thought a Metal Zone with slightly lower gain might get you in the right territory. But hmm.. I've got an old Rocktron Rampage that might get into Burzum-ish territory. [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMEbXs8gNqE[/youtube] This is a fairly accurate portrayal of the newer model - the old one sounds better though because it is older
*gets on soapbox* rocktron effects are probably the best cheap effects out there, ok bye
