dark, brooding reverb

so, i'm looking for a reverb pedal that is super good at making me sound like i'm playing in a cave. nothing too 80s...something big, dark and with the capability to go 100 percent wet. i had a hof and i'm thinking about just snagging another one purely for the church setting, but i thought i'd check in with ilf first.

RV-5's are cool. The Cathedral was alright but I noticed a volume increase that I couldn't get rid of. If you put a Holy Grail BEFORE your distortion thats where the magic happens. It doesn't even have to be a super long trail to sound like youre soaked in it, the distortion picks up all of the reverb artifacts. If I had to pick up another reverb I'd definitely do the RV-5 though. The shimmer on that pedal is nuts, and the trails are super long

I'm pretty sure it's 100% wet possible and even if it's not it sure sounds like it. I could whip up a clip for you if you want?

i really hate/love the rv-5. the modulate setting is amazing, but as a whole, the thing tends to get tinny when slamming it with fuzz. it's not washy enough for me either. the holy grail isn't cool enough for me not enough street cred.

while the dr. scientist is cool, its a liiittle out of my price range.

Well if you're patient I've seen them pop up used for around $175-$185, or you could always use that birthday discount. It's so worth it, best verb there is.

Tech 21 Boost RVB can do dark, full wet and has trails.

the demos i heard of the boost have that 80's style decay that makes me think it wouldn't be suited for a buttload of dirt. i know someone here has one for sale fer cheap though...

I've never had any problems with it handling dirt and I definitely use buttloads.

rv-5 i think is good for dark and big but doesn't necessarily get THAT huge in my opinion.
dr. sci reverb is great and huge but doesn't get dark... actually the opposite - it's pretty bright.

honestly, it's fugly and heavy and has the worst name but the verbzilla is pretty rad (until mine died after 2 years or so?). it's got a cave setting which is huge and dark, can go fully wet and has trails. DO IT

The only thing I didn't enjoy about the Verbzilla was the weak buffer, but if you threw it in a loop it wouldn't make a difference

i was just gonna suggest the spring theory. i gets infinitely wet!
i havent seen many used, but its worth the $179!
