I've seen a few guitars on Ebay with this body cut and I've been wondering about it. Anyone know its origin or what it is called?

Intense, but perhaps not intense enough to make it into production (if only briefly) without a 25 or so year delay.

yeah, it was a prototype that never made it out of the back room at Gibson in the 50s but was eventually produced in the 80s. as you can see, it's an inbred cousin of the Flying V. they're selling a newly-produced limited run now for a brutally high price, somewhere around $4K.
