Gonna go check out an Avatar Neo 2x12 tomorrow. My 4x10 just doesn't have the beef I want. Totally psyched, I've been meaning to try out my Bugera with 12s for a while now

I have played and owned several tube heads, this is tits for sure.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Orange. Now I want a tube amp.

This may be the year I jump into the tube amp world.
But, due to my shitty job situation, that won't be for a while.
Used of course and hopefully, sub 1000 bucks.
I can always sell my current head to offset the cost.
Any ideas on what to look for?

Peavey VB-2 is under a grand new, and I've heard good things.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I do trust Peavey quite a bit.
The dealer in the next town over may be able to help me out.
Doesn't Achtane have one?

Whelp. I just won a Mesa Bass 400+ on ebay for REAL cheaps. Like...enough where I'm confident I can sell it on TB in a few months and not lose any money on shipping. This amp should hold me close while I'm researching my big purchase.

And just FYI, this guy is going to end tomorrow with no bids currently going for $750. There's one on TB going for a fair price of $1200. Might be a good little test and flip for money for someone.

yaa - tube amp snobs can lead you astray VERRRY far and very fast.

There are pro's and con's to both of them. For me, I prefer a hybrid design. (tube pre, solid-state power)
I've owned all tube, solid-state, and hybrid's......

I guess that's not saying much since I have everything :animal:

Yack. Power tubes and non-master volume. Never leave home without 'em.
good deals are here.

I've seen the 400+ going on TB for anywhere between $900 and $1400. You got a smoking deal sousles. I hope you dig it. Be aware that there are 12 powertubes in that beast.

Hey Bassboar, what kind of SS amps do you like? It's all about your tastes. I'm more of a Glockenklang/GK SS guy and I think Mesa is the tube version of that sound (closest). I don't dig many others.

W.H - Oh hell yeah. The Strategy 400 I have now has the same power amp section. I'm scaling down to one cab so I wanted something that could do most of the watts on one channel instead of having to use two.

Which is a weird thing to say btw, because the Glock and GK have very little in common. The Glocks are known for their more Hifi type tones with a sweet top end and GKs are famous for the grind type thing.

hah. i like just power amps. pure power, nuffin' else out of them. the Rusty's such a mean little preamp i run it basically half up on each eq knob, so "flat", with the gain about half up. love that thing.

They both leave a clean sound clean, IMO. That's what I pay attention to when I plug into an amp. Grind can be added or subtracted with playing style, the voicing can be altered with EQ...but there's a lot of amps that just have this sound to them that covers tones (like Ampeg...kinda fat, wet, and warm) and others seem to have less influence. I prefer that lighter, dryer sound and Glock and GK both do that for me. Mesa does, too. Or at least the vintage stuff.

I always felt like the GK Class D I was rocking for a bit had hifi tone for days. Maybe not as much a GlockenKlang (having never played or heard one).

When I first saw GlockenKlang written up in the pages of BP in the 90's,...I saw the price and instantly wrote them off. I'm sure they sound great,...but the appeared to be amps and cabs for Doctors and Lawyers.
