I know, but saying a Fender is mid scooped is like....well, saying it's a Fender.

I tend to like a bit of a dip centered on 750hz though, so I'm a weirdo.

I don't mind some mid scooping. I play mostly muffy tones anyhow.

If so I'd recommend:
Ampeg- V4/V4B, VT-22, B25/B25B
Sunn- 200S, Sorado
Fender- Bassman
Traynor- YBA-1
Musicman- HD 130
May be late, but, user billymick has an HD130 and I think it's for sale.

I agree with all of the great suggestions so far. Be sure to factor the right speaker into your decision, as was mentioned in one of the posts regarding low frequency greenbacks. If you check out the many speaker shootouts on youtube, you'll hear that some have a nice prominent low-mid and scooped upper-mid that may work well with your doom requirement.

Re: Bang for the buck for a new amp
I'm gonna toss another question in here.... I started looking at the Roland JC120...first of all, it was mentioned on this thread; good, solid amps? Secondly, my goal was to kind of find those amps you don't always hear about that actually kick ass, and are thusly a great buy.
Edit: Jazz Chorus is solid state.....nevermind.
Any elaborations on the HD130? It looks cool from what I'm seeing online. Combo vs. head?

and as solid as an apartment block. also often available for very reasonable prices (~$650-700) in the used market when they're cosmetically beat.

JC120's have as good a clean tone as you can get. I'd argue they're the best solid state design ever

Re: Bang for the buck for a new amp
I tried a Laney Lionheart the other night, it is a five watt (yes really) all tube amp with a 12" speaker. It was warm and LOUD with plenty of headroom.
Easily as loud as my 100 watt solid state (and better sounding).
Yes, I'm serious!

Good deals with: PumpkinPieces, maz91379, allicio, nelsinian, tomlane95, casperh7, insubordination, bronzetalon

Anyone have any info/opinions on Fender's "The Twin?" The one with the red knobs, as I think I'm understanding it...?

Re: Bang for the buck for a new amp
haven't played one myself. some folks love them, some folks hate them. colloquially known as the "Evil Twin," sometimes pejoratively, sometimes affectionately. said to be decidedly more aggressive-sounding and less "Fender-y" than other Twin Reverbs; don't expect it to sound like a blackface/silverface.

Re: Bang for the buck for a new amp
The problem with my area is that no one seems to ever put up cool gear for sale, so on with questions..... I've read that they are basically Marshall clones, but has anyone played a Sovtek amp? Mig 60-100?
Edit: Also, the store in town does have a used Hot Rod Deville (410, I think) for around $650, and a pretty beat-up "The Twin" (red knobs) for just $500. Either of those sound like a good deal? I ask about them , because I have store credit right now. Oh, and also a Fender Bandmaster head (40w?) with the 212, for somewhere around $600.
