THE FINAL CHOICE: DANELECTRO WILDTHING VS DANELECTRO DEAD ON

Post by NihilistNixon »

So after months of going from one guitar to another tomorrow is the final showdown. I have my money in the bank and am ready to purchase my new axe...but which will it be? I have narrowed the searches down to two guitars: The Wild Thing (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... TQ:US:1123) and the Dead On (http://www.ebay.com/itm/110872733525?_t ... 97.c0.m619). I need your guy's help. Please tell me which you prefer and the pros and cons of both.

the upper cutaway on the Wild Thing looks awfully tight, and the body seems generally less ergonomic. however, if you can work with it, it's got better upper-fret access. the Dead-On has more versatile controls. both of them have that horrible bridge. i personally find the Wild Thing butt-ugly, but that's just me...if you like it, mazel tov.

I'm able to deal with that sketchy-ass bridge, atleast I think I am.lol
So if it were you chosing between the two it'd be the Dead On, yes?
I like the odd WIld Thing, it pops out to me, same with the Dead On's double pickguard.

the thing i wonder about is how/if the difference in the pickup placement/angle would affect the sound, and whether that would give the WT a, erm, sharper edge.

I hadnt really thought about since I htink they have the same pick-ups, but you could be right. I do prefer more modern sounds over vintage ones.

After much thought I have decided on the Wild Thing for two reasons: It's in new condition and I really love the bottle headstock. I'm shallow, whatever.lol

i agree on the coke bottle headstock...as much as i dig the coral headstock the bottle is just fab.

about the bridge.......23 bux and a drill will correct that. easy and the best possible fix to these creatures.

this is just my opinion, but it looks like the wild thing could be pretty uncomfortable to play.

I saw some reviews and folks were saying as awkward as it looks, since its really light-weight, you don't really notice it. But, it's on it's way so I'll post photos and tell you how it feels. I'm a little nervous myself.lol
