agree and disagree. I go back and forth on mine pretty frequently. One day I love it, the next I'm not sure if I should keep it. the biggest thing I had to realize is it's NOT a practice amp. It's a full on loud as fuck amp. Almost too loud for my apartment uses, but it just sounds so fucking awesome.
Yeah, good point. I'm always really happy when I'm playing one (guitar shop, friend, etc...never owned one), and then I go to pick it up.
yeah i definitely hear you. for practice, I LOVE my Vox Pathfinder. it gets the respect it deserves too. sounds fucking incredible for a 15 watt solid state amp FO REALZ. under$100 too. there's tons of love on ILF too. I've been meaning to do the led mod. seriously check those out if you want a great practice amp

Me too!! The Pathfinder that is. Yes, absolutely incredible for a small solid state amp with an 8" speaker. The bass response is surprising from that little guy. I've considered the LED mod too, but I actually really like how it sounds with the "boost" control on but the gain knocked down to around 8:00 or so. It seems to make the amp really responsive without too much of that solid state distortion sound taking over. I end up switching over to my old Fender for really clean sounds, but the Pathfinder does the mildly dirty rhythm guitar thing as well as many of its higher priced bigger brothers. And a good fuzz pedal can really bring it to life.
I have an Ampeg Superjet 1x12 and I love it. They are extremely light weight as far as combos go too, probably less than half of the weight of my fender vibrosonic. I switched the speaker to a eminence cannabis rex but the stock ampeg one sounds decent too. FIFTY WATTS (tubez) = LOUD. Sweet reverb. A good amount of clean headroom for pedals on the normal channel, and an "accordion" input for getting a beefier overdrive at less volume.
Oh, and I bought it off craigslist in pretty much brand new condition for $275 So yeah, Ampeg combos are pretty much the best deal as far as super versatile amps go, it rocks for recording, small-medium gigs, and bedroom practice.
