Amp Search
I'm looking for an amp that's fairly portable (i.e. carrying it for a couple of blocks wouldn't be a problem),gig-able (at smaller venues), and plays well with keys and guits. My budget's around $500 so far I'm looking at the fender blues junior, the bugera v22 and the zt club. Are there any others I should be looking at?

Re: Amp Search
Laney VC15 and VC30-112.
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. the 6L6s will be much nicer to keyboard transients than the EL84s in the Blues Junior.
Peavey Classic 30.
i haven't tried the new Ampeg combos, but they look promising and are reasonably priced.

Re: Amp Search
you want to think about the keyboards thing...if you're going to be using the amp for percussive keys and you want them clean, i don't think you want an EL84 amp because they have comparatively little clean headroom and e.g. piano attacks, Hammond patches with the Percussion attack on, or percussion-instrument patches like glockenspiel and marimba are going to distort. most of the suggestions here are EL84 amps, except the Hot Rod Deluxe and the Ampeg; you may wish to take this into consideration. i'm just sayin'

Re: Amp Search
Take a look at the Ibanez TSA Head. I run mostly drums and synths through it and i'm very happy with it.

Re: Amp Search
These amps are all great! The hot rod might be a little out of my price-range, but if it sounds good enough I might go for it. Those little ampeg gvt amps are pretty sexy looking, anybody have opinions on them.
Also, I found out peavey valvekings are dang cheap, the 112 has 6l6's in the power section, spring reverb, 40watts at 16ohms and footswitcheable channels. If it sounds good it looks like it might be the right amp for me, anyone know anything about these?

Re: Amp Search
I definitely can recommend the Laney VC30 (although personal preference would be 2x10" rather than the 1x12")
But also, I literally just wrote this in the other amp thread, if it helps;
I would definitely gig with that amp, it has an effects loop, jacks for extra speaker cabs, and surprisingly nice overdriven tones.

yallerhon wrote:I tried a Laney Lionheart the other night, it is a five watt (yes really) all tube amp with a 12" speaker. It was warm and LOUD with plenty of headroom.
Easily as loud as my 100 watt solid state (and better sounding).
Yes, I'm serious!

Good deals with: PumpkinPieces, maz91379, allicio, nelsinian, tomlane95, casperh7, insubordination, bronzetalon

Re: Amp Search
My first thought was also AC15, but man, those things are heavy for the size.

agree and disagree. I go back and forth on mine pretty frequently. One day I love it, the next I'm not sure if I should keep it. the biggest thing I had to realize is it's NOT a practice amp. It's a full on loud as fuck amp. Almost too loud for my apartment uses, but it just sounds so fucking awesome.

Re: Amp Search
!!
Sorry man, I didn't realise they'd cost that much over there! The one I played had been purchased 2nd hand for around $350.
But then again, you guys should see what we pay for Fender (or Vox) gear; ie pretty much double.
Ouch Town. :~(

Yeah, good point. I'm always really happy when I'm playing one (guitar shop, friend, etc...never owned one), and then I go to pick it up.
