Anyone From New England? Out-Of-State Shows?

Post by archlilim »

Guess I'm still new to the gigging thing. We've been wrecking pretty thoroughly in our hometown of Burlington, VT and I'm thinking maybe it might for a little time around New England. Anyone have advice on out-of-state shows in general? Booking? How to hook up with the right bands? Etc?

Also, if anyone on here is from New England, any places in particular in ME, NH, RI, MA that might be good for spacey/noise/drone/rock stuff?

Yeah, I've jammed in the basement of Demarest with my drummer, Andrew Schnur, a couple of times. Maybe you know James Brehm? He's a friend of mine too.
well i guess, but i just don't know.

check out the middle east downstairs in cambridge MA. they can be pretty tough to get a gig at, but if you guys have a tour lined up and some other credible venues you're playing at I'm sure it won't be a problem. It's a really cool space. :thumb:

if not, the middle east upstairs (same venue, different spaces) is a good bit easier to get a show at, but much smaller and not quite the same mojo. Granted, Explosions in the Sky and Hanson have both played at the upstairs, so it's definitely not a bad gig.

here's the website: http://www.mideastclub.com

good luck!

Reppin' RI, right here! There's plenty of spacy/noise/drone/rock stuff in Providence. If you're looking for venues, try Firehouse 13 (http://www.firehouse13.org/contact.php) or AS220 (http://www.as220.org). AS220 requires that you have a RI band on the bill, since they're all about supporting local arts, but mah band is always happy to be that local band. We're more electronic than drone or noise, but if you don't mind being on odd or varied bills, we're happy to play with whoever.

I'm originally from Maine, but I don't know anyone in the Portland area...

Oh, also, years and years ago, my band played at a place in Dover, New Hampshire called the Barley Pub. It was a tiny little pub, but the band we played with was a total space/noise band called 9r (they've since disbanded), and the locals really seemed into them. I don't know if that's a standard thing there, but it might be worth checking out - they're online at http://www.barleypub.com/

the middle east is a lost cause, don't even bother. they won't even consider you for the upstairs room unless you have a press kit or something. lame, overrated dump.

PA's Lounge in somerville is your best bet.

It would be cool to get a Devi network going for bands to play with each other. I'd love some people on ILF to come to VT and play some stuff with us.

Anyone want to try to play together at PA Lounge in late August, thinking anywhere from 8/21 to 8/29? Also, how's the Lizard Lounge?
