Women are awesome

They were hugely influenced by bands like:
- This Heat
- Swell maps
- Wire
- Magazine
- Public image ltd.
- The Fall
- The Feelies
- Young Marble Giants
- ... and of course Sonic Youth

As for bands that sound like them it is hard to say... off that list This Heat probably come the closest. Michael Wallace currently plays drums in the bands Friendo (cool dream pop stuff) and Gold (who don't have any recordings yet). The bassist Matthew Flegel played guitar, bass and accordion in The Cape May who made really pretty music but it doesn't really sound like Women. If you listen to the album "diaper Island" by Chad Vangaalen you can most definitely tell that he was very much influenced by Women. Uhmm I am inclined to say that moments of Liars sound like them... but that is what is so great about them is that not really anyone has their sound right?
