Eastwood Stormbird vs. Eastwood Bighorn

Post by NihilistNixon »

So a few days ago I had decided I was going to buy a Sx Liquid RN. But after research and personal experiences I decided I wasn't going to risk pouring money into an only decent guitar. As it so happens I got my final check from my last job (a nice 168 bucks) and now have enough to buy either an Eastwood Stormbird or Eastwood Bighorn. I haven't played either one but have heard great things about them both. Now here is my issue, I don't know which one to get. I know they both have different pickups in them and the Bighorn is larger scale, but that's as much as I know. So if anyone out there owns either one, please let me know what you like about them. I play a lot of alternative/instrumental rock, so I'm looking to see which one has more modern ring to it. Please help if you feel like it.

I've owned their Hi-Flyer with P90s, which are the same ones in the Stormbird, and I feel the need to let you know they're pretty noisy, like a high pitched squeel with some fuzz/distortion. Which can be a good thing if you're into that sort of thing. The guy I bought mine from installed a dimebucker in the bridge (best fit the spacing of the strings) and I ended up using that more often.

Will a Boss Noise-Supressor take away from the squeal? Im not going to lie though I do enjoy some evil noisy squeals, so was it an unhealthy amount of noise?

OK, so this:

or this:

I've no experience with either of 'em. They both seem pretty nice, but I think I'd go with the Stormbird.

Every time I see the Bighorn I am forcibly reminded of Gumby.

I think either one'd be a decent guitar.

I just listened to some Bighorn demos. Sounds pretty good, but I think the Stormbird'd be a little mo' modern sounding.

Yeah I sent Eastwood an email asking the same thing and they told me the Stormbird's P90s sounding more dark and modern.

I KNOW! It's driving me fucking nuts. I keep going back and forth. I honestly just want an Ichiban but they just hiked up their prices and it would take far too long to save up for one.

 If that's the case, just save your money for an Ichiban. (It's funny, but as I was looking on the Eastwood site, I was thinkin' those're pretty awesome.)
If you need a guitar right away and really can't wait to save up for an Ichiban, get the Stormbird. It's more like the Ichiban than the Bighorn is.

I think Im going to go with your advice. The Stormbird does have a similiar shape and sound to it. Im just afarid if I keep waiting and saving Im going to slowly start spending my dough, then I will throw myself in front of a train when I run out.lol
