Laney Klipp

Post by scabiosa »

Hi Guys!

Anyone experience with these amps? I want to use it for doom/stoner/spaceshit... I'm used to play on a bassman so I have a lot of fuzz pedals and everything. But now I want to make the sound even bigger.

I have the choice between a laney klipp (100watt) and a sovtek MIG (50watt). What do you guys think would be the big difference between these amps?

Thanks! E

Without knowing enough about the Klipp, the Klipp. Mind you, I really like the MIG 50 (not the H/Midget version -- no experience there). I kick myself for not buying one when they were new. But they are crappily built and way overpriced used. It amazes me that they consistently go for more than Traynor Bassmasters. Once the pricing gets up to $400, Traynors and Bassman heads come up as alternatives pretty routinely around me.

Actually Iommi used Supergroups on most of those Sab recordings which is essentially a Superlead but with some small changes. The non klipp channel on a Klipp is one of the input channels on the Supergroup so u can get both sounds tho.

The Migs are essentially 2203 clones. The Klipp is something interesting. It uses a voltage starved differential amp to achieve increased distortion on the Klipp channel. I would def go with the Klipp

thanks for the advice pals! And indeed: the klipp is a huge sounding amp, much fatter than my silverface bassman.
Also, the sovtek would be close to my bassman I guess...

So I go for the Klipp! yeah!

The first issue MIG-50s were closer to something on the 5F6 Bassman to JMP continuum. 5881/6L6 output tubes at 500-ish plate volts, solid state rectifier, and normal-bright inputs that didn't seem as treble-centric as the Marshall circuits became. Very good sounding amp, but when the ask is $800, it's just silly. A couple bills more and someone I can think of will build you pretty much your heart's desire and built to last. Who's that guy? Posts around here. ;)

Great frigging deal on the Klipp! Need pics!

And damn, I should have ordered a Dunwich earlier then. Still seems very fairly priced as the market goes.

thanks that quote would cover the general 100Ws or so. If the aesthetics are stripped down and the design is classic in nature, the cost is usually closer to 1400 or so. those are kinda rough quotes, where things generally fall into. Lower wattage stuff will fall under that window of course

whether bass or guitar, LANEY KLIPP! It's a divine amp for brutally harsh tones.

:thumb: and congrats for getting SUCH an insanely good deal, You know they typically go for a LOT more, don't You?

here is the beast!

and with my other beauties

actually, I think I still prefer the sound of the bassman... it is a littlebit warmer but has the same hugeness (most of the time I play the bassman through the orange 2*12)
but I'm gonna test the klipp on a concert tomorrow!
the klipp cabinet has the original goodmans audiom speakers (2 12p's en 2 12p-g's)
the last owner made the amp footswitchable between clean channel / gain channel / klipp channel

a cool thing!

Hi guys!

One of the speakers of the KLIPP cabinet is broken. Now I wonder which speakers are good with this amp? I want it to sound dark/warm but also with enough mids to cut trough... (actually I just like a good stoner sound ;-)

I an other cabinet I have two celestions v30's that I want to replace, anyone has an idea if the v30's would be a good combinations with two goodmans speakers and the KLIPP?

thanks bro's!!
