I was going to say, it's better to avoid entire genres that have onewordbandnames because I could only think of shit like alexisonfire, or mewithoutyou.
But pinkshinyultrablast are all sorts of awesome. And not shitty.

This is such a shitty name. It's completely ambiguous as to whether it's "Alex is on fire" or "Alexis on fire"
Seriously, there are too many simple ways to fuck up a band name. Basically, if you can't simply state the name and have someone instantly know how to spell it, it's a bad name. No extra explanation should be necessary. Otherwise you're simply deterring potential fans who can't find your band online.

I'm just talking about names. there's plenty of bands I like who would violate my own rules.

Similar rule: I avoid bands whose names are prepositional phrases.
That's weird, because the very first band I could think of that is a prepositional phrase is At the Drive-In, who were fucking awesome.

Oooo this is turning into a fun game!
Hmm...I can't even think of a band with a prepositional phrase for a name.
