Clicky phasers...

Post by Seizurema »

So I'm in the market for a bass phaser and looking at all the usual suspects - Phase 45-100, Smallstone, Akai Intelliphase :p ,etc.

My one pet peeve about modulation/delay-ish effects is when they make a click or some sort of audible noise when they're engaged, it really seems to ruin the mood. That's actually one of the things I love about my old Boss BF2, the flange just begins seamlessly when you step on the pedal. No clicks, no momentary loss of sound.

So, my question really is what do those phasers (EHX, MXR) do when you step on them? And does anyone know of any tonal movement-ish, not swooshy at all, phasers that flawlessly/noiselessly begin phasing when clicked on?

The LFO on the Small Stone keeps going when it's bypassed so the sound you get when you click it on just depends on where the sweep happens to be at.

I like the way the Maestro PS-1 ramps up when you turn it on. Jen Motorphaser and the Roland Phase 5 do that too.
I like the Mutron PhasorII, esp with bass.
Have you tried the Boss PH3 though? It's pretty good.
Good deals done with all these guys

Got to recommend the infanem compact faye sing. Soft touch switching with no click, has a mix and resonance control so it can be super swooshy or very subtle, and it just sounds great.
