Try putting a weak battery in your SM, it will get darker and thicker.

I've been gigging a lot with ukulele as of late; we've got a pretty good folk/roots rock thing happening here lately, so I've been pulled in on that a couple of times.
I know enough to be "dangerous" on guitar, cello and piano as well.
