That's a darn good way to go about it....

I disagree. I always stack with the pedals i love and will keep on my board to see if they can be friends with the newbie. I wouldn't keep a fuzz that doesna stack with my beloved ones save for some very special pedals (Megalith). I guess it's a matter of how you go about putting your rig together and playing in general. For me playing live is absolutely the most important thing and I would not keep a fuzz to play the lead in one recording, even if it sounded amazing just for that. So I always look for stuff that works well in my rig and I don't try to actually build a collection of sounds. But I really found that there is a distinct difference between people that record to get shows and people that play shows to present their recorded material. I belong to the first category. I don't enjoy recording and it never made sense to me to do anything more than just put up microphones in the right spots, everybody play the song and be done with it.

Err, I digress. I enjoy playing just one pedal as well, but I usually decide if it's a keeper or not if I know how it fits with my other tools. I have actually developed GAS for a pedal that I borrowed from Univalve and played solo. but that's just because of it's peculiar sound and it fitting with a certain style I've been wanting to play. So that's basically the seed for another wee board for a certain style. I have boards for different occasions.

Err, I digress.

Check new pedlulz wif board, yo!

Had been trying new arrangments of my board for a few days, when I finally landed on what turned out to be the most useful & best sounding setup I've ever put together. Very happy I am...Very unhappy my neighbors are.

Just adding a Fairfield RR and a custom ss/bs to my board in the future and I'll feel complete. I haven't really switched up my board at all lately, just been playing. I do always try out pedals with my others as I'm a compulsive stacker. My main tone for my guitar-driven doomish stuff consists of my Phantom Ring, Sparkle Motion, Robot Devil and Eau Claire Thunder being on at the same time! Not to mention I also run delay, reverb and occasionally phaser.

I'm in the same boat, The "fun" effects always stay 'cause I don't like flipping gear, but my go-to pedalboard is just a pair of dirt boxes.

That's the way I do it. ATM I'm stuck with just an algal bloom because I screwed up and left my other pedz elsewhere, but since I got it recently I'm having loads of fun using it by itself and figuring out the best settings (all of them).

i'm generally really happy with my board right now. there's stuff i'd like to add. i was thinking about a Prometheus DLX because i really liked the waveforms, but like the poster above i don't care for the sound of the filter...however, i need a phaser, like the Quasar DLX just fine, and it has the same kind of waveform variations. i'll probably replace the Hi Five with a treble booster because i don't really use the Five, and if i get the Randy's Revenge i've been lusting after forever my tremolo will become redundant.

the tough thing for me to find will be an oscillating fuzz...it seems like the inherent quality of self-oscillating fuzz is to have the underlying fuzz be too OTT for me to use it. the AB-Synth is great, but it's kind of redundant to my Algal Bloom and Great Wall. other than lack of oscillation, i'm entirely thrilled with my fuzz array at the moment. if i haven't got the sound i want set up for immediate access, i can probably dial it in in less than 60 seconds.

my big gripe is that i just can't find a compressor that i like. there's hardly a one that i like in demos, and the ones that sound good in demos don't seem to do so well at home. maybe i'm just not a compressor guy, or should stick with rackmounts.
