I've tried Lollar Jazzmaster pickups in two different Jazzmasters, and liked both of them a lot! One had the stock Lollar JM pickups, and the other had a stock JM pickup in the neck with his P-90 JM pickup in the bridge. I always wanted to try the Novak JM pickups of some variety, as I've tried his Tele and Strat pickups, and like them a lot, but figured if it ain't broke, don't fix it, so I never replaced my Lollar JM's with Novaks.
Hope that helps, cheers.

Give Aero pickups a call, great service and they will work with you.
I spent a bout 45 min on the phone with them to get a set of type 2 J bass pickups just the way I wanted them.
Highly recommended.

i was really surprised at how much i liked the PUs on the Squier J Mascis, because i didn't like the PUs on the sparkly purple Fender J Mascis at all. i wound up rocking some James Gang, which isn't exactly what you'd expect to play on a Jazzmaster. "Walk Away," "Funk #49."

It has a slight burst. The refinish wasn't that expensive: it is not stripped, it has still the original sparkle underneath. Will be interesting when it gets worn off
