Reverse reverb

Post by snipelfritz »

What are some reverb units (preferably pedals) that have a good reverse setting and hopefully are relatively cheaper? Well list any good reverse reverb just so I can get an ear for what it should sound like.

Yes, I totally want that dense Loveless sound.

EHX Cathedral and Digitech RV-7 do it. It is the thing I miss most about my Cathedral...

Edit: Looks like the Digiverb does it as well, and you can find those pretty cheap.

Those Yamaha Magic Stomps have the same Verb Kevin used on Loveless from their SPX series... Probably those TC boxes too as TC are Kings of Reverb...

Also I keep this bookmarked... This is an article Kevin did for Tape Op, my favorite magazine... He talks about alot of the tracks... It really made me go back and listen to an album I listen to every week since 1991...

I used to have the RV7. Didn't jive with the reverse. Do have the Cathedral. Tea bag it daily.

Haven't tried the digitech or yamaha, but the cathedral has some handy dandy tweaking options. And the infiniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite switch is awesome.

Ditto on Magicstomp. Mine is the Acoustic version, but any can be reflashed to any other version. People still don't know this so the Acoustic models can still be found kinda cheap. Bass versions seem to be thin on the ground, so I haven't seen them go as cheap.

(I wish whoever owns whatever's left of Alesis would do the same kinda thing with the Midiverb sounds.)

As noted, the Digiverb or the Magicstomp can get you that sound. I have both and I've used each of them in that capacity countless times. The Magicstomp is much more tweakable, so you can get a wide variety of the MBV reverse, but the Digiverb can pull it off fairly convincingly. However, on both of them, the "gated" reverb settings are what you want to delve into for most of the MBV "reverse" reverb sounds.

Also try "Early Reflections" with the "type" set to "reverse."

the MidiVerb II has a different processor than the MV III and IV; that's why the II is preferred. Kevin still was using one on the MBV tour and Tommy Emmanuel swears by it as his main live signal processor. Kevin also used the hell out of the SPX90 on Loveless and the You Made Me Realise EP, and was using the SPX on the 08 tour. that's actually why i bought my rack gear, which consists of two Yamahas--a GEP50 with an SPX90 in its effects loop--a MidiVerb II, and a Rane compressor.

You can also get into the SPX90 stuff very cheaply if you don't mind tabletop/amptop units, REX50s are dirt cheap.

Cathedral is awesome. I wouldn't mind having one alongside my RRR, not one bit.
