Fuzzy Destruction for Doom/Sludge/Drone bliss

Post by fungalattack »

So I recently got a fuzzHUGER and it is really awesome and has truly sparked my interest/addiction for fuzz pedals. Now I need (ok i want) MOARR FUZZZZ PLEAZZEE!!! So you experienced fuzzers, I have a question what would be a destructive pedal for sludgey, doomy, low-end heavy fuzzyness. I am intrigued by the Megalith and the Musket. Any recommendations for something dark, noisey, yet still articulate, yet bordering pure f'in insanity? Any input on stacking these pedals for true tonal bliss!!?!!?! I really want to explode ears with slow, doomy riffs out of my recently acquired laney AOR 50 watt tube head. All the advice would be much much appreciated! :thumb:

Dwarftcraft's Eau Claire Thunder :thumb:
EQD's Dirt Transmitter can be pretty Sludge-y as well, but not as much emphasis on the low end.
The Eau Claire Thunder just pours with low end on most settings.

I mean my amp already is very low-endy so the pedal doesn't necessarily need to be super low-endy. But thanks for the suggestion the Thunder sounds really heavy and versatile. I feel a spending spree of fuzz coming over me. It makes weird noises so that would be awesome for anti-solos, as I call them. I like for half of a solo playing a solo and for the other half or so just playing noisey fuzzy destructos, as a big F you to the egotistical rockstar attitudes. The EQD dirt transmitter is really dirty as the name implies, but that is not exactly what I am looking for. HMM, my path to tonal enlightenment begins ....NOW!

If your amp has a ton of low end already... Maybe a rat? Those things crank in to low heavy amps. And they're very clear because of the mids content.

Also, check out Black Arts Toneworks stuff (specifically the Pharaoh and LSTR), and the Hoof was fantastic for
"clarity" and super huge sound.

I personally did not care for the rats sound. I know people love them but I found it to tinny and nasally. The pharaoh sounds very low-endy and my buddy might be getting one so I will try it out then. The hoof sounds really cool and in the proguitarshop demo, andy plays the Melvins and it sounded killer. I might lean towards that one. Thanks hazelwould! Does anyone else feel that the demos on youtube just don't do justice to how the pedal sounds in real life?

I used to just run a boost into my AOR. I generally prefer more vintage tones though... but all I play are ridiculous doom riffs.

Also had good results with a Meathead clone.

Open your mind. Was at a local show and the doom band on the bill got a great doomy sound out of a Fulltone Catalyst and Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive

(of course the 10 other effect pedals and the simultaneous running of a Sunn Model T, Sunn Beta Bass and Sunn Concert Bass with a variety of cabs at loud volume had a lot to do with it).

Boss HM-2,
Devi Ever Soda Meiser,
Earthbound Audio stuff.

I also was looking at BAT stuff for doomy sludge as well. From what I understand the LSTR is a higher gain more balls to the wall "picks up where the pharaoh leaves off" fuzz of death.

Look for a 5 knob FuzzHugger Ab-Synth... It can do heavy and has oscillation... The Pharaoh is kinda big and ballsy but can cross over into the Huger territory so I'd look at other stuff to compliment...

Isn't the ab-synth very similar in "heavy" tones to the HUGER? (minus the obvious synthy oscillations). Thanks all for your input :thumb: . I am going to be looking into the BAT LSTR and some others. I know good TOOOAANZZ are all subjective but it is nice to hear others opinions and thoughts!
