The Tremolo Conundrum of 2012

Post by jsfabn »

Empress Tap Tremolo or Dr. Scientist Tremolessence... :idk:

I'm looking for some input into which I should buy. Any advice would be appreciated, or suggestions of a more favorable tremolo pedal.

Thank you.

Dr. Scientist!

Unless you need tap tempo, then go with the Goatkeeper. ;)

There's one major flaw in Aen's design! The Moses needs to be in a much larger enclosure to ensure that the mojo is able to properly multiply and thrive. Perhaps installing miniature Ikea furniture, so the tones can have a place to chill before they exit through the output. Just some possible ideas for improvement.

The Tremolessence is stupidly, stupidly beautiful. Seriously. So much love for it.

I always was tempted by the pigtronix tremvelope. It just seems like a very musical tremolo to me. But out of the two pedals you listed I'd go tremolessence.

I retired my old trusty PN-2 and moved to an empress, as I needed tap tempo.
Loving it

I still think the Catalinbread Semaphore is top dog, for the money.

If you don't need the stereo capability or the hold function of the Tremolessence (I don't), it's definitely worth a look at $180 versus $250. Catalinbread has a stereo tap tempo version now for $250 too...I think that might actually be replacing the regular Semaphore, which is a shame. Either way, there's still new-stock small-box Semaphores floating around at dealers.

This!

If you really must have tap tempo, the GK3 is tops imo, covers a huge variety of analog trem options easily but goes WAY BEYOND TREM. The digital controller results in unmatched awesomeness, allowing custom waveforms and LFO sequencing plus there's CV/Exp options, can't go wrong with that shit! Intuitive control set as well, super easy to get the basics down and prep to explore the super cool weirdness beyond.

If no tap required, Dr. Scientist, definitely. Probably the best sounding, feature packed, small footprint trem ever created in space! Huge range of depth and speed (super slow to ring mod fast) and square/triangle/combo-ish waveforms. Exp, stereo, Hold, etc, etc, etc, etc.....
