I never clicked how subtle his guitar playing until I learned to play a few of his songs. I mean I know the guy can really rip but there's stuff buried in some of his tracks that's so simple it's genius.

some of my favorite Hendrix stuff is his exquisite Curtis Mayfield-influenced rhythm guitar on tracks like "Little Wing," "Angel," and "Villanova Junction" (aka "Instrumental Theme from 'Woodstock'").

Justin K. Broadrick has become someone that i really admire not only as a guitarist but an outstanding musician in general. everything the guitar assaults from Godflesh and Jesu to his synth work in Final and stuff like Pale Sketcher. A true genius.

Dylan Carlson's approach to the instrument is so humbling, especially in his later Earth stuff after he stopped doing drugs. He's a good reminder of how less is more sometimes, whether you're droning on one massive distorted chord for 27 minutes or taking your time with a few winding, somber progressions.

I think I said this elsewhere, but Nick Drake will always baffle me. The way he plays the acoustic guitar is totally unmatched by any other.

Can't believe nobody's into Derek Trucks around here. The most awesome tone I have heard in a long time. Nobody can make the guitar sing like he does.

Oh, I like Derek Trucks well enough. I just can't stand the singer for his old band.

I see what you mean, I find his solo projects a little bland sometimes, but his stuff with the Allman Brothers Band is THE shit.

He's a wonderful player, his tone is awesome and his slide stuff in particular is just unbelievable, but it's not really my style and I don't feel inspired when I listen to him play, which for me is the thing that decides my favourite players. :idk:

Really, when I'm considering favorites, only two come to mind.

Josh Homme
Duane Denison

Both are not only amazing at their instruments (though skill only gets you so far in my book), but both also write music with such a creative and bizarre slant on things that they both inspire me to just give a shit, and actually fucking try to write something new. And, to learn how to fucking play guitar.
