Not trying to pick a fight with people who like it, but I am always constantly annoyed that everyone's solution to make something "bass friendly" is just to slap a fucking clean blend on it. It's such a fucking lazy cop-out solution; not everyone likes the stacked parallel signals sound.

There are sooo many more options to make something more bass friendly: bigger in/out capacitors, adding a high-pass filter in series to the clipping diodes so the really low frequencies don't get clipped that much, etc...
Clean blend is just the trivial solution.... because most people like the blend.

Clean blend can definitely be the lazy way out of actually doing good design. I'm not a fan of blend in general, but I think there are some fuzzes that really won't work on bass without it. I definitely hate that "parallel signal" sound for sure - that's why I got rid of my Depth Charge recently. Just sounded like high-end fizz stacked on top of a clean bass signal with nothing in between, in some situations. No bueno.

The TAFM is different to me because it's really a dirty blend - I keep the input gain turned up high and the clean volume pretty low, and the "clean signal" is nice and overdrivey and pretty dark. It doesn't do the "parallel signal" thing to my ears, it actually *blends* and sounds like a normal fuzz with a slamming low end. That's the genius of the TAFM design, to me.
